Hi. PLEASE-I am looking for anyone who had VSG WSL with NJ Horizon and or Medicaid. I am doing my research and am really leaning toward this surgery but fear my insurance will not cover it. Want to hear from anyone who has this insurance.

I don't believe medicaid covers the sleeve, only banding and RNY.  Hopefully I am wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm not.

You might want to try cross posting this to the NJ Board....  you might get more answers, although there's not a lot of VSG'ers there, but there are some.
I had my VSG paid for, but it was as part 1 of a 2 part DS....  sorry,  I don't know what to tell you, other than get it approved as part 1 of a 2 parter, and don't go back for part 2!   All right,  somewhat unethical, but....   good Luck to you!   Have you picked a surgeon yet?  I'm curious who does VSG's in NJ....  Good Luck with BC/BS!   Mary C

WOW! Thanks everyone for the quick reply. I like your thinking process. LOL  wink wink...about the D.S. WLS. Its a good idea. But call me naive but will the surgeon go along with that? I am hoping to use Dr. Neff of Cherry Hill. A very nice man and his B.I.L. is a plastic surgeon, as I know I will need the tummy tuck (C section in 1981 goes up and down from naval to public line ) as well as a old style appendix scar from the 1960s.

Don't tell him you're not coming back for step two. Also if you're successful in your weight loss he's not going to finish the DS so you can lose just a smidge more weight.

I don't know about NJ medicaid but I do for Georgia. And it will pay for it. There's alot of red tape and hoops you have to go through but if you have perserverance and alot of patience they'll do it. You just need to meet their criteria.

Hi everyone. I have a update to this question. I saw my surgeon today....mentioned about the D.S. 1st step surgery and he said the insurance company I use is now hip to the work around trick and will not agree to it. I did not even have to suggest it as the work around, he cut me off at the pass as he knew where I was going with the question. Oh poop! So its looking like plan b (Lap Band) is going to be it. I should have a surgery date by October. I would have one sooner but the Dr. for the MMPI had to reschedule me till next month. Chell
