Food stuck in chest cavity

Okay, I'm so mad at myself! I woke up early to go to a "how to get your first teaching job" seminar that I really needed to go to. Ate some chicken breast sliced and some cheese too fast and got that horrible stuck in my chest cavity feeling. The nutrionist said if we eat too fast sleeve patients will feel it in their chest and not their stomach. Horrible feeling and I had to lay back down. Do any of you all get that and how do you relieve it? Christi

whatever I tried didn't help. I am now much more careful since one time it was really painful. I broke out in a sweat and cried and paced up and down wishing I could get it back up again.

boo!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I was a quick learner and rarely have this happen...when it does I just grimace and wait a few minutes and my pyloris valve works overtime to push the food down and make a smidgen of room.  It could make it worse to lay down but everyone is different!  Other then spitting up (which I DO NOT suggest) there is no option but to wait!  It is our reminder to slow down!

Hope your day is fantabulous!

Thank you everyone for your responses. This has happened before and I know I must learn to eat more slowly, but I have a lifetime of eating fast ingrained in me, however, I hate that stuck in the chest feeling so I've got to learn! :)

I started to think about how my body is shaped now and remembered how in the picture of my xray how much bigger my esophagus is then the opening to my stomach and that the feeling is an uncomfortable stretching of the food trying to get in. So the rare time I stupidly do it now I try my hardest to keep swallowing to help it go down faster and relieve the pain. My theroy might be wrong but it seems to help.

I haven't had this problem with food but it happens alot with water for some reason...And my mouth will water up like I'm gonna get sick but my stomch doesn't feel like it's gonna puke, weird, I just keep swallowing. If I get that tight feeling in the chest I get up and walk around till I belch, then I feel much better...

Good luck and GOD bless (((HUGZ)))
