On the list my dietician gave, corn is a veggie I can't have. But, I'm just curious when I want to go to a mexican resturaunt if I can have corn chips and corn tortillas. Corn tortiallas have corn flour and no gluten or wheat. Just curious. Thanks, Amber

Hi, Amber.
No, corn chips and corn tortillas are not on the list of foods to eat. As I'm sure you know, anything made with corn will be full of carbs and difficult to digest. I know it's hard, getting to the place where your mind can wrap itself around the fact that there are foods that just aren't worth the consequences of consuming them. Personally, I think there's a time of real mourning for old foods and patterns of eating. You'll get there.
Blessings,
Mary

Corn tortillas are BAD, but  definately stay away from flour tortillas - they have a HUGE amount of carbs. HUGE! Like 4 to 5 times the amount (same size) as a corn tortilla.
Maybe later in your recovery you will be able to have "some" tortilla chips.
I am severely ADDICTED to chips and salsa - here's a trick I used back in the WWatcher days.  Get a chip and break it into several small pieces and dip each individual piece.  Lots of Salsa - fewer chips.  Stretches the calories out a bit

***Being on my liquid protein diet day 10 - just typing about Chips and Salsa has actually made me drool***

I make my own baked "corn chips" with La Tortilla Factory low carb tortillas. Very easy. Just cut into chip wedges, spray with a little non stick spray and bake at 375 until crispy. Not only allowed, but tasty and satisfying. Try seasoning them as soon as they come out of the oven with a little sea salt, or taco seasoning also.
they contain only 3 net grams of carbohydrates and 9 grahams of fiber. They have several flavors to choose from as well.

Here's a link to their website. May have to copy and paste to your browser. www.latortillafactory.com/

Can I just say that reading this post made me want to say "AY, DIOS MIO!!!!"?

What ever will I (and my Mexican husband) do?? Flour tortillas are a staple at our house. I know I will be tempted at some point to start stuffing a tortilla....I have to look into the La Tortilla Factory low carb tortillas. I am hoping that this is one of those things I will not have a taste for.

Oh.. and I love corn.... shucks.

It is a veggie that you can NEVER have again?  I wasn't told that by my dietician.  Just curious.

My NUT said that corn is hard to digest, even on a non WLS stomach.  I would imagine that the tortilla chips would just take up much needed space for protein.  I ate them with my band because they crucnhed and went down.  I won't say that I'll never have another tortilla chip again, but at this point, I'd be happy keeping down cream soup, LOL!!!  Seriously though, corn is high in carbs so possibly that's why they want you to stay away as well.  But, at the end of the day we all have to make our diet choices.

Aloha Amber- Every doctor is apparently so different. I did not hear that corn was off limits. It is a starchier vegetable but has Vit A and fiber so it's not like eating granulated sugar. I have corn in my many soups, and I have had tortilla chips 2-3 times- each time laden with black beans, salsa, melted low fat cheese and low fat sour cream. I can eat exactly.......drumroll.....2 small chips like this and I am stuffed. Plus I've had popcorn - about a handful fills me up- 2-3 times. I see corn as more valuable to my body than say, white flour or sugar. XOLori
