Lactose intolerance after surgery?

I'm not a big dairy consumer, but lately I've been craving a glass of chocolate milk. After I drink it, I feel nauseas for about an hour. Is it common to become lactose intolerant after surgery, even 8 months out (wow, just realized it's my 8 month surgery anniversary)? This has been going on for about a week now.
What are the symptoms, anyway?

Lactose intolerance can come on at anytime. It usually causes you to be bloated and gassy.
I am thinking the culprit may be the sugar.

I used to have the same problem until I decided to try a lactose free organic milk....Lets just say I went from no cereal no milk at all to drinking it once a day. Now I buy the 1& but it satisfies me just fine....

Yes, lactose intolerance is VERY COMMON after this surgery, and they don't know why.  My docs and NUT's said the medical community has no idea what causes it.  Weird!  I LOVE milk and never had problems pre-surgery.  But now I get deathly sick if I drink milk products of any kind.  Tried some cream with my decaf coffee a month post surgery and thought I was gonna die-awful!  My symptoms were terrific nausea and stomach cramps.  I've been told that Lactaid OTC at the drug store helps some people.

I love milk/milk products but found after VSG in March that drinking/eating milk products causes me stomach cramps and diarrhea in about 30 minutes. I started buying lactose free milk and that solved the drinking, but boo hoo..what about my cheese?? You can google "lactose intolerance" and get all the symptoms/causes.

Thanks! I only get nausea, no cramping or anything else. i'm thinking it might be the sugar..who knows, I'm not going to drink it anymore, though lol.

I have tried to drink Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast twice.  Both times I became nauseated for about an hour.  I waited a month in between times hoping it would not happen...but it did!

Weird huh?  I can eat cottage cheese, cheese with no problem!

I'll be having surgery in 3 weeks. I have a lactose problem. Right now I can drink FF Milk, but not daily. Even then I'll get stomach aches. So, what do you mix with the pe-op drinks. Little concerned here. I just ordered mine.

I had a big problem with this early out. But I still can't drink a lot milk unless I take a lactaid with it.
