I took a dispursement of a 401K from a former employer.  Thankfully I had not rolled it over to the new employer!

I did the same thing.  Saved for an entire year while reading these boards and gearing myself up for surgery.

I saved up as well. I had decided what I couldn't pay cash for I would charge but my surgery was postponed 2 times so now I have it all!

Dad just added it to my other loan that I am currently paying him back.  He's been the Family Bank since the oldest of my 11 brothers and sisters has needed loans.  He charges interest (low of course, I mean we are his kids after all, lol) and has ammortization schedules drawn up and we all make our monthly payments.  Not bad for a 3rd grade education, huh?

The best part about borrowing from Dad is that if we have to skip a payment or six, he won't reposses our homes, cars, children, LOL!  Although he's told us plenty of times that he's willing to forget anything we owe him in exchange for the grandkids! He's got 49 of 'em!

My Mom gave me the money.  Wasn't that cool of her?   I took my inheritance early !
My brother gets property - acerage and orchard,  my sister gets lots of acres - the old family homestead way up north, and I get a new life !!

But we would have used our Line of Credit if we had to. (if Mom had not been in a position to help)   Best "purchase" of my life !
Mom agrees it was good use of her money  - she was thrilled to be of help.
And it certainly wasn't cheap, having to convert Canadian $$ to U.S.
But wortlh every penny and then some !

I took 3000 out of savings and paid cash for the rest. We do a Christmas light business and normally we do vacation, savings and home improvements with that profit but we used it for my surgery. I was prepared to borrow.

 OOP = Out Of Pocket.

Wife was very resistant (she owns the business and runs the finances because we are in her country****il I pointed out:

1.  It would cost one days income for every year we've had the business.
2. I've never requested anything just for myself before.
3. I'd divorce her ass and get a lawyer if she says no.  Still suspected her to pull the carpet out right up to the moment she paid.

I got it.
