So why exactly do we have to eat so slow with a VSG
eat fast and you'll find out, haha!
no just kidding... because your stomach will be very swollen, so the inside of it will be a very very small opening so you want to avoid swallowing unchewed food, swallowing too much food, or eating too quickly because you don't want to compromise your staple line, you don't want to feel like you have a large farm animal sitting on your chest, and you don't want to start drooling like niagra falls... it is all very uncomfortable and even painful..... i'm 3 months out and i still have to eat slow or those things will happen to me...

I've had co-workers warn me about having the surgery because they know people who gag and/or get sick when they eat. My first question to them was,"Does your friend take large bites and eat fast?" Answer,"Why yes!" I said, "Well there you go." We have to take small bite and chew till the consistency of baby food is what I've been told. My surgery is in 5 days. I believe in learning from other mistakes rather than make my own. Do whatever your doctor tells you. Good luck.
Its all going to depend on your tummy its going to be boss LOL... ive been lucky and the only thing my tummy doesnt seem to like too much is ice cold drinks it aches if they are too cold... as i have moved along in my diet my bites have gotten bigger and i dont seem to take too long to eat anything other than steak, i think at first it pays to go pretty slow so you get the idea of what your full signal is.

I think it's all of the above and the time factor plays the major role in eventually being able to eat quicker and more.
For me right at this moment I couldn't imagine eating ANYTHING too quickly...I'd probably pass out or something. I get winded and tight in the chest when I forget and drink my water too quickly. Like another post said...'if you do you'll feel so bad that you won't forget and do it again,' how true.
Thankfully I've had no foamies or throwing up as I am extremely cautious and yes, the tummy rules.
I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!
