Emergency food/gas station food

I tried pork rinds today and they were good.  I've never tried them before because i thought they sounded gross.  But I was desperate for something to eat and I was at the gas station.  Nuts have too many calories per serving...  So I looked at the bag of pork rinds and it didn;t look to bad.  They didn't taste too bad either.

What is another good emergency food like that?

They often have string cheese, milk, and others talk about turkey jerky, but I am not quite ready for that hard a food. I keep a premixed protein shake in the car.

I'd rethink the nuts too - they at least have good fats. Pork rinds, while good, have lots of saturated fat. I've been in a similar situation and had a hot dog without the bun.

Welcome to Today. May it be better than Yesterday, but not as good as Tomorrow.

I have grabbed beef or turkey jerky at a gas station when I needed protein and needed it now.

Jerkey, cheese, check their refrigerators for individual protein shakes (some 7-11s carry PureProtein brand shakes around here)...some places near me (Sheetz, Wawa, 7-11) even carry little packs of 1 or 2 hard boiled eggs.  I also check the protein bars - some are awfully full of sugar, but some places carry Atkins brand or Supreme brand, and a 7-11 I hit up recently also carried Pure Protein brand bars (it was big, so I only ate half at a time, so it served me for 2 meals/snacks instead of 1!).

I found muscle milk shakes in a gas station. That was the first time I had tried them. I was surprised, they were better than the ones I had been having.

Jack Link's brand meat snacks are great. They have one that is called Beef Steak. http://www.amazon.com/Jack-Links-Original-2-Ounce-Packages/dp/B000GW6786 They 1 oz pkgs are usually $1.49-$2.00 and the 2 oz pkgs are anywhere from $2.49-3.00 depending on the place.

Many gas stations also have fresh beef sticks available.

I've never had pork rinds either.
Nuts have a lot of calories but jam packed full of healthy protein!!  You could try beef jerky or beef sticks, cottage cheese. Some gas stations have sandwhich meat or a sandwhich and you could eat the meat and no bread.  Some gas stations have chili or hot dogs (the good kind).
