If you drink Alcohol, how long did you wait after surgery?

I had a glass of wine at about 8 weeks out. My doctors rules say no alcohol, carbination or caffeine for 1 year.

My surgeon told me I could have a little wine one week after surgery.  Not that I plan on doing it because the usual wine drinking with dinner has contributed to a lot of weigh gain for me.  I plan in having a glass or two only on weekends.

I asked my doc and he said that I would have to wait until I was 2 months out. I love a good dessert wine and I can't wait to have a glass! It's a bit fizzy but I will pour myself a glass and let it go flat before I drink it. I'm scared of carbonation, feel like it may make my new tummy burst. Freaks me out just to think of it!

Wow, I feel a lot less guilty now.  I went in with the best intentions.  Buttttt (there always is a but, isn't there) this really cute guy fairly forced me to drink and I freaked and got what I used to get:  a Long Island Tea.  Not the best option but there was only maybe 1 oz. of coke in it but lots of alcohol.  I sipped that one drink over the course of nearly 3 hours (I was made fun of because of it) and you know it lasted just fine and I felt just fine.  (This was exactly 5 weeks out).  This is NOT something I do often or plan on doing often until I've lost all my weight.

Re; carbonation--it just goes to show you how different surgeon's offices are.  My surgeon said to wait 3 months for carbonation and then proceed carefully.

carbonation is not good for your stomach It causes a stretching of the tissue.......we did not have this surgery only to reverse it by carbonation default.......I say just don't do it!   alcohol is a different story , I do experience a lower tolerance t so be careful.

I had a glass of red wine around 6 weeks out.  Now I have a glass or two once a week or so.  I always count the calories and make sure it fits into my daily "allotment".  I also make sure all of my other nutritional requirements have been met before hand.  Hubby and I started visiting wineries and collecting good Virginia wines after our daughter went to college and it is something we enjoy doing together.  I did find initially the wine seemed to affect me quicker but now I don't feel there is any difference.  I am very careful when we stop at a winery to visit though.  I may taste one or two wines but I no longer do the full tasting.  Even though a whole tasting might be half a glass of wine I see no need to take the chance that that might be the time it affects me more.

I waited until I was close to goal before I started drinking. And for a long time I didn't really enjoy it much because I got drunk so fast -- I couldn't even drink ONE drink! But then I'd be stone-cold sober 30 min. later. It was no fun at all!

As for carbonation, I worry that it will hurt so I'm kind of leery of it. I won't drink soda any more for health reasons so that only leaves things like sparkling cider and champagne. But sparkling cider is SO carbonated and I'm not a big fan of champagne. I did have a glass about 6 months ago and it didn't hurt.
