is soup considered a meal, or liquids?

Starting soft mushies today has brought up lots of questions for me..... Worried about not getting in enough protein too... So, I just had some broccoli for "lunch". My all time favorite soup of Progresso
Chicken Barley - I've been drinking the broth - thought I'd add some unjury to it. But is that too "heavy" to be considered fluids, or should I consider it a meal?

It was explained to me that all "foods" are food - but some "foods" can also be considered fluids.  Ok - that was a little confusing.

So - say for lunch I have 2oz of steak and some brocolli.  Clearly food, and my meal.

Next day, I have 3/4c turkey soup.  Probably half "broth" and half chunks.  This is also my meal - but could also count toward me "fluids" for the day.  Or at least the half "broth" part.  Even fruit can contribute toward your fluid intake.

If what you are eating has a significant protein/calorie count (like 10-20g protein and 100+ calories), I'd count it as a meal/snack.  The only things I don't count as meals/snacks are things like SF popsicles, diet cranberry juice etc. (things that only have 10-30cals).

Does that help?

Right now it is most important that you get the fluids in expecially in this heat.  For me soup counts as both.  Protein shakes counted as both that early out.  I am not sure I could have handled brocolli at this point since there is no protein in it and for me I considered the protein value of everything I ate.  Remember to take it easy and pace yourself.

The solids in a soup are "food", as the liquids can be.  The liquids are counted as liquids, the solids are not.

This is NOT complicated, it just takes simplicity.  Liquids are always liquids, but they can also be foods at the same time.
