"cause there's no other WLS group out there that's as nasty, *****y, and judgemental as those people"
Wow, seriously? From where I'm sitting there's plenty of nasty, *****y and judgmental crap happening right in this thread: a bunch of generalizations about "DSers" based on the actions of a few.
I just checked the thread and two DSers appear to have been getting into it with Mittens. However, many more of us wished her well and congratulated her on deciding on the sleeve just a few days back. But I guess the threads where we're offering support to VSGers don't get as much notice for whatever reason.

I posted a thread last week saying that for my own personal reasons I had changed my mind. I got no negativity, just some nice good lucks and well wishes.
I will never categorize anyone for a general group, but I was generalized today and I am not one to take it lightly. It's just my personality. I wasn't concerned about a troll, lol! But when I saw the other thread saying that we are delusional, well I got mad. I'm human and it happens. :D
I'm done with the drama, I am happy with my choice and I wish everyone the same happiness with their's.
And hugs to Jenna, you couldn't find a nicer person then her.
I'm not crazy...ok well don't ask my hubby or children.
I'm not crazy-I'm desperate. I have this problem that since I had 14 months of chemo (only to lose my breast 6 weeks later anyway with a recurrence) my body was so out of whack that the DS is SERIOUSLY the only way I'll lose weight. I didn't believe them, so I tried the Lap band and puked on that for 2 years.
So on Sept. 22 I hope to have a tough, cut wide open surgery that will help me finally lose weight. I don't want to die of 50 from a heart attack after all I've been through, I want to live.
The sleeve wasn't even considered not that it's not a great tool as well.
I just had to tell you that I'm not crazy, just desperate.

Well from being on that board I can tell you that there are some really nice and helpful people who are DS'rs, and I have them in my utmost respect.
HOWEVER
I am peeved at some of those posts because I for one because I don't think I post highschoolish threads and what a way to generalize a group. If I see a post I don't like ON ANY BOARD I don't open it up.
This, I guess makes me delusional.

I think it is almost amusing....why they are so bored to come check out what the other boards are doing and saying.
It all comes down to personal choice and if someone has completely researched and made an informed decision, then they had reasons for it. Period. We aren't talking about the Lap-Band vs. VSG, we are talking about restrictive vs. malabsorption which is a BIG difference. If I wanted to be able to eat like like I do pre-op and consume 3000+ calories a day and maintain my weight, I would have went with the DS. BUT! I decided that having my surgery pay for itself with less food and not to spend hundreds of dollars in vitamins, not to mention that I suck when it comes to maintenance with labs and taking hand-fulls of vitamins where you can't take this one with that or that with this, but need to take this with that....whew...there are more important things in life to me then balancing trips to the doc, the lab and sorting vitamins!
I did a lot of research on the different surgeries and considered the DS. I have not one problem with the surgery and would have done it if it weren't for me knowing myself and knowing that the up-keep would have gone on the back-burner....what is so uninformed and misdirected about that?
I'm not confused in any way...I have the 1st part of the DS and if at some point in time I find out that I need a tractor to mow my 1/4 acre lot (and that I'm ready for that commitment), then I'll have the other half done....but for now, I'm happy with my little "gate crasher" riding mower!!

A post entitled "Troll PSA" by Elizabeth N. Didn't realize how much DSers hate VSGers. Also watch out for the troll.I have a very dear friend who has a Sleeve and I support her 100% in her WLS journey. When she asked me about the different surgeries, I explained all of them and left it up to her to decide.
Please don't paint all of us with the same brush.
Also, I wanted to add that
1. I don't have bad gas.
2. I don't suffer from diarrhea or any bathroom issues.
3. I am NOT malnutritioned or vitamin deficient.
4. Despite starting at a BMI of 43 (considered a lightweight) I have not lost too much weight and am maintaining my weight loss effortlessly so far.
While a small percentage of people do have some of those issues, they are not typical and can be rectified. If the DS really was that horrible, why would it still be performed and why would the vast majority of DSers on OH be so happy with their DS?
I know that I enjoy "paying it forward" to other pre-ops who are doing research, because that is how I first heard of the DS. Some go about it in a more direct approach, and some just like to present information in a more subtle way (like this
). Truthfully, the more direct approach usually gets more attention, according to the hit counts.
, Jules Unfortunately, there's always a few bad apples that spoil the whole barrel. Some of us have had bad experiences with pushy DSers or those who are downright rude. I don't think the entire forum is that way but it soured me enough to stay away :)
I had one flat out tell me I was going to fail with the VSG and that they would be seeing me on the revision forum. Nice, huh? All because I said I did not want the DS. I wasn't saying it was not a good surgery. I wasn't saying anybody who had it was stupid. I was saying it was not the surgery for me.
It does get kind of insulting when people assume you haven't done any research. Or that they know what is better for you than you do, or even your surgeon. That kind of approach may work with some people but it never worked with me. And it seems to be the approach several of the members I've seen take. I just block the people who act like jerks, though, then I never have to worry about them again.
You're right though. It's not good to lump everybody into one category.

I must have missed that whole ordeal, but since I'm always the optimist, I can't help but wonder if these people who told you that weren't in their own way, just trying to help you and save you potential heartache in the future? Maybe they had your best interest at heart. I don't know! I'm sorry your feelings were hurt.
Saying "We all know we'll be seeing you on the revision forum because the sleeve failed you" is not in any way helpful. Saying 'Hey, have you considered the DS?' is a better way to approach it but I already told the first person that I had researched it and felt it wasn't for me. It was the "We all know we'll be seeing you on the revision forum" that was the problem. :)
