How is showering right after surgery and after discharge? Can you shower like normal? (My surgeon said I would not have any drains.) How do you take care not to get the incisions wet?
Thanks a bunch!

I did shower once I got home from the hospital just like normal. My incisions had water proof tape over them so I was told not to worry about it. The tape started coming off maybe 2 weeks after I came home. I just let them fall off on their own.

I showered in the hospital, the dr removed my dressing and said to clean my staples with soap and water an leave them open to air. No bandages reapplied

My incisions also had water proof tape over them and I was able to shower right away.

My incisions were closed with surgical glue. No staples, no tape, okay to shower.

I was told to be sure not to let the water rain down on me. I stand at the back of the shower and wash as normal. I put alot of soap on my wash cloth and squeeze it over my stomach. I don't rub the incisions. then I rinse the same way with clear water. I wash the rest of my body as normal. I was also told to stand under the water letting the water hit my back instead of my belly. Hope this helps.

I showered the next day.  I was advised to just pat dry my incisions.  When the drain came out same thing.  Today (8 dys out) you can barely see my scars they are all closed and healed and the bandages are all gone.  It's still sentitive but they look great.  Oh btw, if you use a cotton ball and baby oil you can remove that sticky black tape around the incisions.  Just be sure not to pour oil on the incisions.

Hope that helps a bit:)

I showered the next day my incisions had disolvable stitches on the inside. They were covered with a piece of gauze an a tegaderm patch I took all of them off before I got into the shower I was fine. I am 4wks out and my incisions are completely healed. I did not have a drain either thank god!

I took a shower the day after surgery with a JP drain.  My incisions had glue and tape on them. I just used one hand to put soap on while the other held the drain.  Used warm water cause a little bit hotter made me feel faint.
