Hearing about gas pains from the surgery, taking Gas X and walking to move the gas is good.........but is it possible with constipation and gas that you could strain yourself trying to "fart" and cause a leak in your sleeve??? Sorry to be blunt, but had to ask?

You've recently had surgery?  I would not strain,  Take fiber if you need to.  If you're taking iron and not getting enough fluids, constipation will be a problem.  Take it easy.

After surgery I had bad constipation trying to have a BM...it felt like I was in labor...sweating...etc...someone told me about Benefiber...you put two scoops in your drinks and it shakes up clear..no taste...and not thick...you cannot tell its in there.

Use it like 3 times per day...I get the walmart brand called Equate...its cheaper and just as good.

Also I take two stool softners a day 1 in the evening and 1 at night before bed...and I have great release now like once, or twice a day no pain or straining.

We do not get enough fiber in our diet..and also if you are on pain meds most cause constipation.

Good luck!

Don't worry about it immediately post-op.  By Day 2, you'll probably start passing gas & having a BM or two.  The first couple of weeks, you're likely to have loose BM's just because liquids in = liquids out.  I'm exactly 3 weeks out, and things are pretty normal.  Straining isn't healthy, surgery or not.

Current weight: 170 lbs.

Once I reach goal, this cow will be killed & eaten... 2 ounces at a time.

Total includes 56 lbs. lost on 2-month low carb pre-op diet.  Start date 9/13/10.

I had trouble with BM's right after surgery. I had diarrhea first, for about a week then constipation for 16 days... but I was also on a liquid stage II diet during that time. Now that I am on mushies I am having a more regular regiment.
On this journey, there is no wrong path, we walk it all together.

Eating yogurt helped me get things through.  I recommend having some.  And I didn't push to fart or anything because I didn't want to strain or hurt.  You can hold your stomach with a pillow so that you can fart and sneeze.  But try to be patient and let things come out on their own.  It'll get better.
