My surgery is not till the 19th but I take Meloxicam and I have read on here and the other website for this that you can't take it anymore.  Not sure I'm going to ask.

if these are anti-inflammatories then it is because they slow down the healing process. I had wrist surgery and that is what the doctor told me.

it is an nsaid anti-inflammatory so you may want to avoid after surgery for a while to avoid an ulcer in your healing stomach. the good thing about vsg is apparently we vcan take nsaids in the future where gastric bypass cannot- but i dont know if it is safe for daily usage or just occassional....

I am pre-surgery and I take Mobic for knee pain. The nurse in my surgeon's office had the RNY and she also has back issues. She is the first one to advise me to consider the sleeve because of the ability to take NSAIDS after surgery. She said she either has to endure the pain or take a pain pill and feel loopy all day. Robin said if she had her choice to do over, she would have chosen the sleeve for the very reason that you can take meds like Mobic after surgery.

You'll have to be off of them for awhile. Check with your surgeon for his guidelines. Need to let your stomach heal. NSAIDS can cause ulcers and erosions. I have been on Indocin for years due to my arthritis It is the strongest NSAID out there. I had a pre-op endoscopy and was surprised to see a lot of erosions in my esophagus due to the meds!

I chose the sleeve so I can continue taking NSAIDs

I had to go off of them for a week or two prior to surgery and resumed taking them after 2 weeks post op.  I just had my 3 mo check up and everything was fine.  That was one of the reason why I chose VSG, the need to take anti-inflamatory meds.  Every Dr. is different so please make sure that you check with yours to see what you should do.

I took it pre op and had to stop 2 weeks before surgery but then I resumed taking it 2 weeks post op. I'm 18 months out, take it daily and everything is fine. By the way, my dose is 15 mg.
