Well it is not a stall it is your body adjusting. Just wait till you hit the real stall at 5 months when you will not lose weight for weeks that everyone goes thru (mine was over 6 weeks) what will you call it then? Just sayin, not trying to be a smart ass or anthing just sayin.

5 months? I stalled for 4 weeks after my first 2 weeks post op... LOL

THAT was definitely a stall. It finally broke this week.... but I was REALLY doubting myself not losing anything so close after surgery!

It is what it is, our bodies catching up... I agree with you, no smart ass comments :P

yep I agree and we all will get the true stall.
I am just saying those who dont lose a pounds in a few days or a week they freely call them stalls, but are they really.  As my OP said, I am guilty of it too!

Yeah tell me about it.  November and December were tough on weight loss - then it kicked back into gear.

Interestingly enough, each weight I got stuck at was a weight that I had been at and maintained for a few years.  I don't know if the rumors about "set-points" - a weight we were comfortable at in the past - is true or if it's just a coincidence.  But that's where I get stuck.

Should be interesting now cause I can't remember being at any weight less than I am now - ever.  I don't think I weighed a single time between age 13 and 25.  For real.  But I do know this - I am wearing a smaller size than I have at any point in my adult life - or even since I was like 15.  That's scary.

I have not lost weight in a month, THAT is a stall (I've lost some inches but not sure where they've gone because the scale hasn't moved, LOL). Not losing weight in a week is not a stall as you said. Also, starvation mode is a myth. As long as you have fat to lose, your body will not go into anything like it. HOWEVER, your metabolism can slow down some but that will not equate no weight loss at all. There's tons of articles about it and MacMadame wrote up a really great explanation on her blog about the starvation mode myth.

In my group(s), we don't use the word 'stall,"  we prefer "plateau."  My surgeon says:  "WLS puts you on a downward staircase - not an elevator and not an escalator.

You will sometimes stay on one step a bit longer than another."  I love the metaphor b/c it reminds me that we all lose at a pace WE control; the sleeve is a tool, the way we use it will determine a lot about how much and how fast you lose lbs.

Our dietitian tells us to call her if and when we go three consecutive weeks without any weight loss.  She says she doesn't get a lot of calls about plateaus of more than 3 weeks.

Less input + more output + consistency = weight loss.  We can debate all the finer points of carbs, calories, fats, etc., but it's pretty simple really - eat right, work hard and lose weight.

I can relate to comparing myself to others.. that's about the only thing I hate about OH. I can't help but analyze people's tickers and surgery dates and compare myself to them. I know I work really hard at this, but I know I'm not perfect either (too many calories and eating too often are my issues).

So when I see someone doing really well to find out they don't really do anything special and that I'm working out regularly etc. it is sometimes hard to see that situation.. doesn't seem fair. Other times I learn new tricks from people who are losing quickly.

I've learned tons of wonderful tricks from Elina that has helped speed up my weight loss like drinking lots of tea between meals and making frequent meals less damaging by making the meals very low calorie and filling.

When I see people saying they are stalling, I see it as an opportunity to look at possible ideas they can do to speed up weight loss.  It may be they are doing everything right and just need to be patient, but sometimes it helps to find people who can relate or just to be in action and trying new ideas.

So many of us have tried our hardest and failed so many times it gets scary and you sometimes can't help but wonder when the dream will end for you.. when this will all end.  I still have fears every day that I won't make it to goal.  I use those fears to motivate me to make better food choices and work out more, and embrace them.  If I were to share those fears I bet many of us could relate. :)
