Cottage Cheese Test - Size your Sleeve

This is what I heard to do when your like 9 months out or a year + or so. They say I shouldnt worry about it now. I just wanted to pass this along.  This is from my NUT`s.  If anyone does it, i would like to know your results!

Now, for the Cottage Cheese Test, here's what you do:
  1. Purchase a container of small curd low-fat cottage cheese.
  2. Begin the test with a full container of cottage cheese, and perform the test in the morning before eating anything else. This will be your breakfast on that day.
  3. Eat fairly quickly until you feel full (less than five minutes). Note that the small soft curds do not require much chewing. You are eating rapidly so you will fill the pouch before there is time for any food to flow out of it.  After eating your "fill" of cottage cheese, you will be left with a partially eaten container that has an empty space where cottage cheese used to be.
  4. Measure the volume of cottage cheese you have eaten by filling a two cup (16 fl.oz.) measuring cup with water. Slowly pour water into the container of cottage cheese until the water level rises to the original top level of the cottage cheese.
  5. The amount of water poured into the container is the functional size of your pouch.

Er, uh, am I missing something here?  Why not just measure the amount of cottage cheese your eating, like a quarter cup at a time, or by using a tablespoon?  Wouldn't want to waste good cottage cheese by slushin' it up with water.   Pop-Pop

I'm just guessin here, but the test is written for RNY (they use the word "pouch").  RNYers don't have the spincter muscle at the bottom of their pouch that holds food in until it's ready to be released to the intestines.  So, their food can push through, which may be why the instructions say to eat so fast (no time to measure?).  We still have ours (which is why my post-op instructions- for RNY and VSG-  say not to drink for 30mins after eating, but I have to wait 45 or more or else I'm sick).

I don't see why you couldn't measure it as you go, or put it in a measuring cup first.

Nope, no better way.  I've seen it around before too.  I'm just imagining (key words, guessing and imagining) that we don't have to eat super fast cause I don't think our stomachs will empty as we eat like the pouches can.

I don't like cottage cheese anyway.

There must be a reason why not to scrape and stuff... I dont know...  lol
All I know is that the Nut`s use this cottage cheese test. It has been around for awhile.

I will do it when I am 9 months or a year out. I am only 7 weeks.  giggles

Another thought is that most of the time I open a container it's not full to the top, so if I fill it the top with water, then I won't have an accurate measure of what I've eaten.  I agree with other posters that it would be much simpler to eat 1/4 cup at a time, and then by tablespoons or teaspoons to find the capacity of our sleeve.  I'm 4 weeks out and I can eat a 1/2 cup individual serving container of 2% cottage cheese pretty quickly.  I haven't pushed it to see how much more I could eat because I'm satisfied with that at this point.

Did I say it made sense to me?  All I know is that My "Nuts" use it and several others. If you know of a better tummy sleeve or pouch test then please, by all means ...share it with us.

Take a pen and mark the container if your that concerned.  There are reasons why I am sure they have us do it in the way that they do.

Also....  did i hear waste good cottage cheese..  hahahahahaha   what is a few bucks to take a test.  also water wont hurt the cottage cheese ...will it?  wont you like pour it out to measure it.  Would I be that desperate worrying about the cottage cheese?  I think I would be more concerned how big my sleeve is.

Listen, This cottage cheese test has been posted many times here on OH. Please do a search and you will see.

I am only 7 weeks out. This cottage cheese test is not new.  Look around and you will see.  Go ahead and do it your way....  I am sure you will feel confident with your way and your choice.

Let me know how it works for you!  :)

Cheers!!!!
