Eating too fast!!!!

I am over 3 weeks out and on soft food. I just ate two peices of lunch meat rolled around a peice of low fat sting cheese with some smart balance mayo. I must have eaten it too fast because it felt like it was stuck and I almost got sick. This has happened 1 other time witk turkey meatloaf. I guess I'll eventually learn to eat slower!?!?!?!

Six weeks out - On full diet and it is still a challenge.  I really have to take my time, focus on eating, chewing etc.  While I have never thrown up I have made myself uncomfortable and don't like it.  This part is a challenge!

Oddly enough when I was logging on I was telling my husband that I must have eaten my egg to fast! and stuck is the word I think is appropriate. I wasn't paying attention to my mouthful. I had the oven cooking for the family and telling them what to do and I forgot to give me my directives. That has to stop.I find I don't know what to do with myself when eating...everyone else is done before me.And then they leave the table. kind of lonley.

Eating fast is a difficult habit to break.

Some tips someone gave me---
Put the food on a plate and cut it up.  I started out eating those roll ups or other small items at  the counter in the kitchen.  It's your meal after all.
Try using chop stix on things like that...put them down between every bite...then chew, chew, chew.
I still use the chop stix almost a year out to keep myself slow.

You'll get in the new habit. It just takes some practice.

I am 3months out and still have that problem sometimes...it's hard because it's like I forget that I've had the surgery so I stuff my mouth and when my mouth is full I think to myself oooohhh that is way too much food.  It's truly an adjustment!!

I'm 5 weeks out and experiance the same thing.  SUCKS!  At dinner my husband will say you have that look (like she's gonna hurl).  I started cutting all my food on the plate into little pieces when I sit down and I'm using a litttle fork and spoon to try and retrain myself.  Getting there, but very slowly!  We will get it eventually!

Funny enough, my lunch today was 2 pieces of lunch meat and a string cheese! :)

I am 6 and a half weeks post op... but I wouldn't roll them together and eat it. I pull my string cheese apart like a 6 year old and tore the pieces of meat up and just had small bites. It takes longer, but you won't get that stuck feeling.

Eating too fast is my biggest struggle for sure, so I feel ya. Try to be conscious of it and take 25-30 minutes to eat. :-) It's not a race!

You will but that won't be the last time you eat too fast!  If I am not paying attention or I let myself get too hungary before I eat, I will still every once in awhile eat too fast....and pay for it.  I never feel sick but it hurts!
