Incision concerns

Hey VSGers! Just checking in, hoping someone can offer some advice.  Two of my incisions are still oozing a bit.  Mostly at night, could it be that I'm doing too much during the day? Or is it still pretty normal at four weeks out? The Dr. said as long as it doesn't look infected I have nothing to worry about.  It doesn't look infected, but it does look aggrevated.  It's a little hard around it, slightly red, and tender if touched.

Thanks.

Just my opinion, I would go let the doc look at it. $ weeks out it should be closed by now...
Think positive, and all ur hopes and dreams will follow!

Drs make me soooo freakin' mad when they ignore this ****! If it is oozing, red and tender to the touch...that is not normal. I am wound care certified and it ****** me off when they blow it off until it is a raging infection. Doing Home Health for 20+ yrs I have had to fight with Drs on their post surgical wounds until they did something. Please be your own advocate. Do you know any nurses? We tend to pay more attention to these things than some Drs. Is the drainage green or yellow(pus like?) If it is clear with a little blood(serous), at least it prob isn't infected...YET. Being 4 weeks out, I don't think this is normal. PUSH your Dr or go to your primary. ASK for a culture...insist upon it. I don't mean to scare you, but there are a lot of nasty hospital bugs out there and Drs should be paying more attention.
Let me know how you are sweetie.

Actually they didn't have them covered at all.  I do now to keep the ooze off of my clothing.

Thanks for the replies. The Dr. said that if the drainage was slightly red but clear not to worry.  But when I took the gauze off last night, it did have a slightly yellowish color to it.  I'm calling the Dr. today and I'll insist that they do a culture.  Being diabetic I know I heal slower than some, but I didn't think it should still be open at this point.  Thanks again.

I am a few days from being 4 weeks out and I'm healed completely. You should not have any oozing at all at this point. You need to call you doctor!

i would make the Dr look at them.  Mine were closed by the time I left the hospital.  They used Super Glue (or some medical type of glue, but I can't remember the name!), and I didn't have any problems.

I hope it turns out to be nothing, but don't take the chance!

hey, I had my surgery a couple of days before yours (2-28-2011)and my have been healed for weeks now. I think that after about 2weeks they were closed and now they are healing nicely. I never had any leakage, or ozzing of any kind. I would follow everyones suggestion and get to the doc asap.

Good luck girlie!
