Dietician's evaluation

I am working on my presurgery evaluations. I live an hour away from my surgeon's office, so they gave me the name of a dietican they said they work with in my area. My appointment is tomorrow. But she called today to ask what my appointment is for. I told her. She asked which surgery and she didn't know what VSG was. Not entirely suprised. But then I wasn't certain she was going to give me what I needed for the evaluation. She said we'd be talking about diet changes after surgery etc. I assumed that would be part of the surgeon's education and their office dietician appointments.

So can someone tell me what your dietician evaluation was and what you left with? I'm afraid I'm not going to get the paperwork I really need for my insurance.

My dietician evaluation was mostly to make sure I was clear about diet after surgery (for her purposes, you're near enough to the bypass, just don't dispute with her if she says something that doesn't apply to you like dumping). She needs to sign off that you understand what's expected and have a realistic picture of what's what.

Honestly, if they've used her before I'm sure it will be fine. I didn't leave with anything - that went to the surgeon's office to send in with my insurance. If your surgeon's office is having you gather the bits & pieces of paper, just nicely ask her outright: my insurance requires a dietician evaluation - do you have something I can submit to them?

My dietitician basically goes over my diet, and suggests choices I can make before and after surgery.  She suggests the amount of protein, vitamins, calcium we need in our system to help in our weight loss journey.  It is basically notes required to submit to your insurance group for approval.

I really dislike the way my surgeon's presurgery system works. After their seminar you can't even get an initial appointment until you have gathered all the evaluations yourself and submitted them to his office with their packet. If anything is missing, they return it to you. If you manage to get everything they require then they will call you to make an appointment with the surgeon. Not the ideal way to select your surgeon or get any of your initial questions answered.

I'm going off what I heard at the seminar and what I read here. And I want to be sure my appointments result in the right paperwork.

I wish that's how mine worked, just think you get all the paperwork together, if you've done your homework and have a complete check list of required items/sign offs etc .... then you go out and get them.  You make photocopies for your records and submit all in one neat complete package as opposed to putting your trust in someone Else's hands that they will submit what is required and not loose or misinterpret anything.  I would much rather gather it all myself and hand it all in at once, then have others piecemeal it and hope everything turns out .... If you are unsure ask lots of questions and multiple times don't be afraid to confirm what you're getting and making sure it's the right stuff ...... Good Luck

My dietician works with the surgeon in the same office. So they know what to submit and I don't have to take anything to anyone. I wi**** were all like that. Right now I'm having to find someone locally to do an upper GI. The surgeon's office would schedule that for me too if I wanted to drive 1 1/2 hours to get it done. But I would rather save the gas money. If the dietician has done it before then she should know exactly what needs to be done.
