I didn't think it would happen....

I thought I would fly through these early weeks...I had a lot of enthusiasm.  I will be one week post-surgery tomorrow, and today I am feeling really discouraged.  I feel hungry and so so sick of artificial sweetener.  For some reason I thought tomorrow was the day I could start purees, but when I pulled out my sheet to prep for it I saw the date of 5/7--ack, maybe not the last straw, but getting closer than I feel I should at this point.  I do have a tendency toward depression (yes, on meds), and this feels pretty chemical to me.

If anyone experienced this, can you tell me when you started to feel better & what made the difference?
Thanks,
Jenny

the first month or so is the hardest - i was on clear liquids for 4 weeks post-op ( i will NEVER eat jello again!!)  once i was on solid foods, and after i learned my 'full' signals, it was a lot better....

hang in there -- it WILL get better!!

It took my over two weeks to start feeling good.  I started drinking fresh pressed veggie juice - there's a great organic grocer with a juice bar close to my house.  I hate V8 and was skeptical of veggie juice but the fresh stuff is yummy and such a nice change from sweeteners.

Hang in there.  It gets so much better.  I'm just over 3 weeks out now and feel like myself again.

Fresh pressed veggie juice sounds heavenly! No such thing in our small town. I start full liquids tomorrow but still have two more weeks of it. Don't even get me started on mashed potatoes! Lol

Sorry you're not feeling great, Jen! Got any good movies to watch? Keep your mind off things? How's the weather? Could you take a walk? Keep us updated!
Mom to 8, looking forward to a healthy future!

Yes.  Moving to mushies/increasing caloric intake made me feel much better.  I never tasted anything better than oatmeal or mashed potatoes in my entire life.

I really wasn't hungry at all, but i was sick of sugar free jello, sugar free pudding, broth, and couldn't stand the taste of my protein supplements.

Over easy or over medium eggs, peanut butter, mashed potatoes, refried beans, cheese, and a lot of other things like that made me feel so much better it's hard to describe.  Things will get better when you start mushies, and then will improve every day.

Also try to drink as much water/liquid as you possibly can, that will help the feeling of hunger.

Can I get an "amen".  I about died when I had my instant mashed potatoes thinned out with chicken broth...omg.  I won't ever forget that.  Especially after all the sweet tasting stuff.  Then I had my first scrambled eggs at 4 weeks.  I think I will probably cry when I can have a peice of chicken breast, LMAO.

Thanks, all.  Me and potatoes have always been pretty tight, so I'm sure I'll be a much happier camper on Saturday.

I've done protein powder in savory soups, but for some reason I'm developing a mental block to the protein powder.  The stuff is flavorless!!!! What is my problem?

I'll just try to sleep as much as I can until Saturday.

Try walking instead of sleeping it works! Unjury makes a protein chicken soup that helped me. I water down Fuse or Propel Zero, it is too sweet for me. V8, cream soups ,. I still do this and am slowly adding something to eat a couple of times a day.

Hang in there!!!

You are just one week out girl! Let your body catch up to your mind... it may take a while, but let yourself heal and that's what's happening - you are healing and maybe feeling crappy. You probably are having those weird 'did I do the right thing moments' too.

Be sure to use your resources! On your follow up with nutrition maybe they can suggest some ideas for good mood foods? You never know - unless you ask!

You should come to support group! I do the one in Edmodns, but they are all over the area! Check www.pacificnutritionwellness.com on the events calendar or Facebook -
