What to do for date night???
So my hubby, being all proud of me, told me when I get to 60lbs lost he would take me to dinner. As wonderful as this would be, it kinda defeats the purpose. Not to mention the waste of money it is for me to go out to eat!!
Does anyone have any good suggestions for what to do to celebrate?? I was thinking of a movie, which would also be an NSV since I would actually fit in the seat comfortably! Or maybe heading to AC for the night, which he doesn't love to do, but we're celebrating me not him, lol!

My husband and I have starting calculating how much we use to spend on going out to eat and once a month we use some of that amount and go out to the casino. Going out to dinner is really not bad at all though, when we go out, I usually either get a soup or an appetizer and if I decide to get a entree', I make sure it is somthing that will reheat nicely and usually have lunch for two or three days. We don't go out to eat often but it is nice every now and then so don't throw it out for a good date night!
My take is a little different. One of the many reasons I chose VSG was to make my weight-loss and post weight-loss as "normal" as possible, given the seriousness of the effort. I felt it was important to try to maintain as much of my pre-op life-style as I could - good for me, my mental health and good for all those around me - even though, I'm going through a major transformation.
So, at 65, one of my "goals" was to be able to meet my daughter for a lunch date (usually Panera where I have great soup and bring home an apple) and another was to occassionally celebrate w/wifey, who is my #1 cheerleader and soul-mate. So we go to restaurants that she likes and we figure our what I can enjoy - usually an appetizer and perhaps a bite of what she's having. We don't go out often, but we don't shy away from it either. We've even been to an all-inclusive resort where I sampled the finer liquors and ate in some quality restaurants - with only one painful episode in an entire week . By week's end I had lost another 5 lbs. - played a lot of golf and other physical activity to burn off the calories I guess.
Anyway, I'm all for non-food celebrations - movies, (I love casinos) the theater, a concert, etc., but I don't rule out anything b/c "I'm on a diet."
It's working wonderfully for me - I'm down 133 lbs. and not quite 6 mos. post-op. My only "magic" is that I exercise every single day and follow my nutrition regimen 99.5% of the time.

I have the same mentality as Pop Pop. . . My husband and I have been having date nights since before I hit goal. I want normalcy, I wanted to eat what I wanted, and enjoy life post-op. Don't worry about money, box up leftovers, celebrate your journey. I, of course, stuck to my losing guidelines even on date nights, but I didn't allow my "program" to dictate my fun.
One tried and true place for us to eat the local Japanese Hibachi restaurant. You know those places where they cook on the flat top in front of you. The one place here allows you to "share" the meal without an additional charge. We always order the "Queen Special" (awfully fitting isn't it LOL), anyways, it is served with soup/salad (he eats the salad, I eat the soup), Filet Mignon, Shrimp, Scallops, and Chicken breast, sauteed in-season veggies, rice (we get fried cause I like it better than steamed), and these funky shoestring potato/hashbrown thingy. The hibachi place offers smaller meals for sharing as well, but I want the scallops and steak, he loves the shrimp and chicken so it really works well for us.
Since, I'm way further out, I can eat more plus it's an experience we enjoy thoroughly. Considering my husband didn't eat any type of ethnic food before we met, this is a huge accomplishment in getting him to eat some great food. Anyways, the point is, that we split the meal, I don't eat the potatoes, I eat a few pieces of the filet, 2-3 scallops, about 1/4cup of the rice, and maybe a few little chunks of the chicken. It is way more than enough food for the both of us.
We get out of there for less than 35 bucks for both of us if I am not having copious amounts of Japanese plum wine. Which of course, I'm not indulging in since I'm pregnant, but believe me, it's the best 35 bucks we spend for date nights, and it's a protein packed meal for me that gives me 100% satiety, and we sit and enjoy each other, the conversation and the chef's show on the flat top. Now that I'm further out, we do order a sushi roll before our meal, and I eat 2 pieces of the sushi roll. This entire dinner experience typically lasts 2 hours so that is why I can fit more food in than I could if I was just eating dinner in a 20-30 minute time frame.
