A little bit closer
I went and saw the nutritionist today. I have about 2 classes to go to next month and I will be finished my diet in July. I am starting to get a little excited. The nutritionist gave me a lot of helpful information. I am a little discouragaed because she was telling me that the insurance companies do not like to approve the sleeve surgery unless your BMI is about 50. My BMI is about 44. She is also telling me if they deny me for the sleeve that eventually they will approve it. I was telling her that I did not want the lapband and she asked about me wanting to bybass surgery as a alternative. Does any one have any insight on this. Were you denied your first time? Thanks in advance!

I wonder why your nutrionist told you that sleeve surg is'nt covered for bmi's under 50?? Insurance usually covers WLS if BMIs are 40 and up OR 35 to 39 with 2 comorbidities (ex: high blood pressure; diabetes;arthritis; sleep apnea). If she is asking you about bypass (which is more riskier with more potential for complications) why would she think the insurance would pay for that? You should ask to speak with your Surgeon in regards to which surgeriers are covered under your insurance plan. You could also call your insurance and ask or look up Bariatric Surgery on their website to see what is covered.
