Birth control with the sleeve

My OB/GYN has treated many WLS patients.  She told me that the efficacy of oral BC drops to about 50% after WLS, because our metabolism is changed.  I am going to have the paragaurd inserted next week.  I have PCOS and need to stay away from hormonal BC.  And I personally feel my body should do it the normal way, ie let my fat release the hormones like it is supposed to and let it metabolize them out of my system rather than go on oral BC to stop that.  (my OB offered for me to start taking the pill so I'd stop having the breakthrough bleeding that I've been having since surgery) It'll get better, and it's natural.

The one thing about IUD's is my doctor said I should leave it in for 3 years to "get my monies" worth. But since my options are limited in the BC matter I will have it in and probably have it removed in a year.  I personally don't like condoms, and honestly my hubby and I never use protection until I had surgery now we are using 2 kinds...EVERY. TIME.  I want more babies but don't want to screw up my new lease on life by getting pregnant too soon.  I can wait 1 year.  And babies are more expensive than IUD's so no matter what it costs it's cheaper than the alternative! lol

not that this applies to you, but my surgeon took me off of my birth control pills right after my surgery for 30 days because he didn't want the increased chance of blood clots. i was totally ok with this because i was only on them for regulation...not to mention i would not have wanted any sort of action through most of that 30 days anyhow. lol

anyhow, i just thought i'd post this for anyone who might read and still be pre-op. i was all about taking percautions, and this made perfect sense to me.

i have not yet seen my ob-gyn so we'll see what she says about them when i go.
