I didn't, but my surgeon checked the part of the stomach he removed and it had some polyps that were sent for pathology.  Probably a good idea.

EGD = Esophogogastroduodenoscopy.  It's a scope of your upper gastro section.

My surgeon says that he generally requires it of all his patients, however he waived it for me as well as the sleep study because I don't have a history of heartburn, acid reflux, or sleep disturbances. I told him I would do them, but he said he didn't want to increase my costs unnecessarily since Im paying for it myself.

This is the simplest of all precedures. You don't feel a thing. You are put under for about 20 min total, you wake up and go home. No real biggie. You will need someone to drive you home because you may still be a bit groggy afterwards.

As my Dr said, you should never go with a surgeon that does not do one. That eliminates the possibilities of being "surprised" during surgery. He said that he has detected cancers, polyps, and other things that can cause problems. Its better to get it done. I know it sounds scarry but it really isn't at all. I've had it done twice.

Take Care
