Cleaning out my closet

I did not realize I had THAT many clothes.  The crazy thing is, I've done this at least once since surgery (though not as thoroughly) and by the amounts of clothing I'm still giving out, I'd swear some of my clothese snuck back home.

I now realize that I was a clothing hoarder.  I had very large clothing stockpile for at least 2 different sizes, and supplemental pieces for at least 4 sizes.  5 boxes to ship off to friends, and a filled-to-the-brim construction bag later (and a still full closet), I can openly admit it.  But I think it's good.  When I started to do this a few months back and got some of it done, I was much sadder about this.  Do you know how hard it was for me to find these clothes?!  They were such a godsend when I did.  I felt like they were my "friends."  But as my friend Amanda pointed out, I have newer smaller friends!  Goodbye 20's and 18's and 16's...you were there for me when I needed you and I am forever grateful.

I am, surprisingly, happy to being seeing them go.  Yay for more closet room.  Oh, and come fall and winter I'll be screwed with nothing to wear

Isn't that an amazing feeling?  And just think of the fun you'll have shopping for new fall and winter clothes!

You've done a kick ass job, enjoy those smaller sizes!!!!

Whoa...any 16s left in that construction bag? I would happily cover any shipping costs and take very good care of your old friends.

PM me if you'd have the time for something like that.

Same here on the 20's and maybe 18's if you are up for it. I just cleaned out my closets completely and don't have hardly any clothes left! All my clothes were 22-24, I had purged my smaller sizes a couple years back!

I might have some 18s too, but I'm short so I'll have to see if I have any regular length stuff. Any interest in XXL skirts/dresses?

Just a heads up...I suck on mailing stuff so it might take me a couple of weeks to get it out.

I don't wear a lot of dresses, but thanks! It's a weird position to be in to have empty drawers! I kept a few sweaters that I think will look good as oversized, just in case.. but wow I have closet space and drawers aplenty. I need to stick with thrift/consignment/Goodwill until I get to a stable weight again or this could get $$..

I completely get it. I've been really, really good about cleaning out my closet. As soon as something is too big, it goes on the donate pile (which now looks like donate mountain...and I had to start a second pile...). I've already donated 1 giant IKEA bag full at Xmas time and it looks like I have enough for another 2 IKEA bags worth. I haven't really sorted the long sleeve stuff in a while or my sweaters, so that will be an adventure come fall. I'm betting that 9/10ths of it is out the door, which is kinda sad when you think about it. I've had some of those things since high school (ok, maybe that's pathetic...) :)

BUT...at the same time...there are a few pieces that I just can't part with and I'll wear them until someone has to not so gently tell me that it's way too big and I look ridiculous (like my favorite XXL dress). Today, I have on a M dress so that XXL one was insanely large.

and yes, I'll be screwed come fall and winter as well. I have an Aug. birthday and I'm telling everyone to buy me clothes or give me gift cards! I'm gonna go broke replacing my wardrobe, but I think it's a good problem to have (new clothes, not the going broke part!)

It's crazy huh? I told some girls at my table at our last Support meeting who hadn't had surgery yet - to go home -open up their closet and say goodbye to their clothes!! I give away stacks every week!!

I can relate to getting rid of tons of different sizes. I had multiple sizes in my closet and have gotten rid of them all, and dropped 3 more sizes. I've donated 4 large bags to the local Food bank.

I've been buying jeans on ebay and am finally close enough to goal to actually shop for my current size. I might drop one more pants size; might stay the same. I'll have to see how that works out.

I'm looking forward to buying a whole new wardrobe....
