Why is it that we aren't supposed to drink before meals?

I've never had to follow that rule of 30 minutes before eating since we have a normal stomach and not a pouch. Liquids go in, hit the pyloric valve and dumps out. With a pouch, the fluids have to seep through the stoma. YAY for the sleeve not having that issue.

Early out, it was difficult to drink before a meal because of the swelling, but the further out I've gotten, it really doesn't matter if I drink or don't before a meal.

Drinking too soon before eating makes it so that you can fit in more, plus it dilutes stomach acids. I stop drinking 15 mins before eating and wait 45 mins after meals. I eat 6 meals a day and still manage this by eating on a schedule.
