pissed to the 10 th power. Primary doc forcing me to choose her choice of surgeon

I'm not happy.. Contacted my own insurance prior and they do cover the surgeon and Hospital of my choice.Since I have an HMO, they need a referral from my internist to see the surgeon. She choose some names of surgeons she works with because according to her my choice of surgeon not on her  list.  She said,  I can only choose hospitals/ surgeons in my immediate area. WTF. I know this is wrong. How could she? Now I have to look deep into this.  WHO WOULD ALLOW AN INTERNIST TO PICK A SURGEON OUT OF A HAT AND JUST GO ALONG. YIKES!!!!!! DOUBLE YIKES.!!!!!! She seemed impatient and annoyed about my research. As if I was just supposed walk into her office and let her tell me who or what I am suppose to choose. As if I am a brainless charater that walks out into darkness with no sense of intelligence. Here we go. the work has begun. I AM SOOOOO MAD
she made a comment,  "wow your really serious aren't you? tired of the weight huh?"

Can you choose a new internist?!

I'm looking into that also. Its a two hour wait just to see her and not thrilled about how her office is set up. I'm finding it enjoyable when she's out on leave now days, so yeup time for a change.

yes, I did. Had to get out of the medical group and find private internist.

Obviously SHE doesn't think! I agree...see if you can change your PCP. I'd also contact your insurance company and see if they have any way to resolve this. Obviously your internist agrees with the surgery, so once you got the referral, can you change the choice of surgeon??

Sorry!  Could you get a referal from your gyn?  Change your PCP?  Sounds like she is one I wouldn't want to stick with anyway!

Yes, I i changed my internist and got out of group coverage that was the problem. Glad to go too. Everytime I see her it's a two hour wait anyways. thanks Lucy

I am a nurse and this has me HOPPING MAD!!! If you did your research and you can use the surgeon of your choice by your HMO you are LEGALLY able to choose your own Dr. I would find out who to report this Dr to because she is bullying you and that is illegal. YOU have the right to choose your own Dr that is covered by your insurance. GAWD this ***** has me boiling mad. Good luck to you and don't bow down to her bullying.
