lapband ignorance

Ugh...that is frustrating. When I got my lap band a few years ago, I had not done enough of my own research and hadn't found OH. My doctor discussed the possible complications with me (although I don't think he was aware either of how frequently those complications are occurring now) and indicated that he thought RNY would get me to goal faster, but I thought, "those things won't happen to me!" (ugh...stupid) and went ahead with it.

Now, I often visit the lap band forum and respond to newbies requesting more info or asking for experiences. I feel I am respectful, but if you say you had a problem with the band you are labeled a basher which encourages posts like these:

I'm not on this site to bash anyone and I sincerely want people to succeed regardless of surgery type, but it is hard for me to stay away from the lap band forum too because who knows what kind of discomfort and embarrassment I would have been saved from if I had just taken the time to learn the other side of the story. At least then people can say they made an informed decision whereas the best I can say about my band decision is that I must have been in denial about being a mere mortal who is just as much at risk of complications as the next.

I am thankful I was so lucky to be able to have a revision and have it go smoothly.
