Hi.  So I am home now!! woohoo!  My instructions say to mix my protein drink with 8 oz of skim milk.  I tried this and it was ssssooo thick, I couldn't stomach it.  On the actual pouch of protein powder, it says to use water.  I tired that and it was so much better.  Do you guys use milk or water???

Also, since my instructions say to use milk in my shakes, can I drink milk by itself, on my clear liquid phase?

And lastly,  when counting protein.  If you use milk in your shakes, do you add the protein from the milk to your shake, or is the info. including the added milk in their numbers of protein in a shake?  Does that make sense?  In other words-- The shake was 27g of protein.  If I had used milk, would I add the 8g protein from the milk as well??

Thanks!!
Sheri

Hi there, welcome!  The info on the protein drink should indicate if the milk protein is included.  If you don't like the powder mixed with milk, mix it with water and drink the milk later, or have another protein drink.  I had a lot of trouble at first getting in enough protein and getting all my fluids, could do one, but not both in a day LOL!  I still find that I tolerate warm fluids much better than cold fluids, and I'm 16 months postop.  Hope this helps.

I am the same.  I hated the protein shakes with milk, it was thick and too filling.  I couldn't drink the whole thing.  I used water with mine during pre-op and during the clear liquid phase, and still now when I choose to have one instead of a meal.

As far as looking at nutritial values, it should indicate if it's included.  Kind of like cereal boxes, they give you both values (with and with out milk)   If the protein packet sayes to use water then most likely it is not including the milk, so you would have to add it seperatly.

Hey Sheri,

First let me say... Yay! I am so happy for you!!!  Welcome to the bench!

I never used milk - couldn't stomach it.  Not unusual to be lactose intollerant after surgery for a while.  Also you will find that at first you won't go to the bathroom much then you will become "loosey goosey" and understand the "OH never trust a fart" saying.

As for protein - Yes you count every gram you get.  And for liquids you get to count your water from shakes as part of your water too!

I have YOUR JEANS waiting for you and will bring them to group so that you can hang them up and start getting to those first goals.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Hope to see you at group - Congrats again!!!

Hugs,

Laura
