Question about maintenance...

I thought I had answered all my questions before I began this journey, but I just thought of one today that I do not know the answer to.  When I get to goal, will I be able to drink when eating?  Right now, I just can't even if I want to due to lack of space, but do any of you drink with meals while on maintenance?

I am almost two years out and I still do not drink when I eat.  I might have a tiny sip if I need too, but mostly I wait until 30 min. passes after my meals.  I could drink earlier than this, but I find that if I do, I get hungrier earlier and that is a deal breaker for me.

I'm close to 2 years post-op and have been maintaining at my goal weight for a year but still do not drink when I eat.

I've tried it and had the same results as when I was 2 months post-op, I got stomach pains and foamed. If I need I take a small sip of water but for the most part I wait at least 30 minutes after I eat to have a beverage. It becomes second nature. When asked what I want to drink with my meal my kids generally chime in" Daddy does not drink when he eats".

I'm 2.5 years out and still don't do it.  There's still not a lot of room in the tiny tummy and I NEED my food...drinks can wait 45 minutes!

It does indeed take some getting used to, the whole eating without drinking concept.  I'm one year post-op and still cannot do it.  Like those *****sponded previously, I too play the waiting game - normally about 15-20 minutes for me.  We eat out bunches, so I just order water to avoid questions by the server.

Hi there fellow Blaney patient! You are doing great!

I am the same as you right now regarding drinking...there's no room!

I just wanted to say congrats on your success thus far. I was also wondering if you have had a recent visit with Dr. Blaney? Is he seeing patients out of the gym yet? Each time I call the office I seem to get a different answer about where my upcoming appt will be.

Hey, Lindsey!  Congrats back to you!  You seem to be doing better than me.  I am just coming out of about a month long stall, but I hung in there and things are moving along quickly now.  I don't see Dr. Blaney till July.  They were not sure when I scheduled the appt where he would be seeing patients, so I don't know either.  When is your appt?

I've got an appointment in 2 weeks with him. I'll let you know if I end up going to the office or the gym. At my last visit in March, he said he wanted me to lose 50 lbs by this upcoming appointment! 50 lbs in 3 months seems crazy and I wish he wouldn't throw those numbers around like that. Makes me feel like I am doing something wrong. I'm about 12 lbs over what he was hoping for....oh well! I know I have put in the effort, so I am content with my progress.

I don't think I am doing better than you, I just started higher. I'm still over 200 and you're in the elusive onederland! You should be proud for sure!

Glad the stall broke...got to hate those.

Yes, I know.  He gave me a goal to reach by this next appt also.  When I was in the stall, I was thinking no way, but now I have till July 19th to lose about 5 lbs.  I think I can handle that.  I don't like the goal thing either because it makes me nervous.   I am always afraid of not reaching the goal and getting depressed about it.  I am very competitive, but if I don't achieve better than expected, my self esteem takes a hit and I don't need that now.   But yes, I too, feel like I have put in the effort.  So many times I could have just fallen into some of my old habits, but I resisted and I think we should both be proud of ourselves!

Thanks everyone.  I don't have a problem waiting 30 minutes to drink. I am totally used to it.   I just didn't know if it wiould change later on.
