Endometriosis & VSG

OMG, Jean..THANK YOU!  You've really been through the ringer and I feel for you!  I'm sure my endo is stage one since the few times a year when I do menstruate it's pretty bad, but manageable with a constant dose of Advil and a day off of work.  I can't imagine having growth on my stomach or lungs!  Wow!

The head of the bariatric program at FMC (who doesn't perform surgeries anymore, but still reviews all the files and pioneers research) didn't have any experience with endometriosis, but I have yet to speak to the other two surgeons at the hospital; we're waiting for insurance approval first.

I think I saw that you had your endo last month; have you had any issues with endo since then?  You also mentioned that the reason you had the VSG was because of the endo.  Do you/your doctors have reason to believe that the VSG or the severe diet change will impact endo regrowth?  I'm SUPER interested in this topic.

Thanks again!!!!

It is probably as simple as taking some high quality pictures of endo growths to the surgeons and asking them to just look and see if there is anything in the cavity while they are in there. It will be obvious and they will be right there staring in the cavity. I'm betting a nice clean bill of health results :-)

I should be endo free now. Without any hormones in my body it has nothing to grow from.
There is a miniscule risk that I may have an endo flare up as I lose weight. Some hormones get stored in fat and as I lose this weight rapidly will be released. It should not be enough to trigger my endo, and without a constant supply the endo will quickly die off. The only benefit of no HRTS and having no ovaries.

My VSG is because of Endo.

I was 125 pounds my entire life, through pregnancies, before and after children, etc. That was my normal, never dieting weight. I never watched what I ate. I never had to.  I never exercised.

When you remove your ovaries you change the way your body metabolises fat. With no HRTs due to severe endometriosis, and no ovaries my body's chemical balance and metabolism were dramatically changed. I now have a permanent metabolic condition.

I worked with the doctors over the years to try and fix this and that did not work. For the first time in my life I was heavily dieting, at times starving myself and it did not work. I would gain a steady 1-2 pounds a month year after year. Post menopause hell.

I was about 100 pounds heavier than before surgery and fed up with everything. Clinically obese and the doctor said you know temporary solutions are not good fixes for permanent problems. You will never be normal with the procedures that have been done to you and starving your way through life is not the answer.

They felt the VSG was a good permanent solution for my situation. It would allow me to reduce my food intake to a diet level without having to ever feel like Im dieting. I've never known a day of hunger since I got the sleeve. This thing is amazing. To eat like a bird and feel full all of the time. Hell I forget to eat sometimes. It is working for me.
