Surgery in Mexico

I had the Vertical Sleeve done in Mexico the 8th of June (cuz my insurance wouldn't cover it) and I had a super fabulous experience.  However, I took my stitches out too early and one of the incisions is open and most of them appear to be infected...I've been using peroxide but it's not going away.  Before I had the surgery I  talked to a Bariatric surgeon in the states who said that no doctor would see me if I had the surgery in Mexico...any ideas???

I'm down 17.2lbs in 1 week! wahoo!!

Dont you have a primary care dr in the states?
I would go into the dr and show him. Then if you need antibiotics, or different treatment for the incisions, he will take care of you! He is not going to turn you away for that!!!

I agree...as long as you are not running a fever it is not an emergency...however, you need to go to your PCP and just have them give you a dose of antibiotics. You are doing the right thing with peroxide...or you can even use wound cleanser. If it opened early you might want to consider getting some gauze from your local pharmacy and keeping them covered, too. However, the most important step would be to go to you PCP or if you do not have one, an urgent care clinic and getting some antibiotics. It could be a staph infection, that left untreated, could go systemic...so just be careful.

Id like to know how your surgeon was.

Did you use alcohol to clean your stuff before you used them on the stitches? Did  they look infected before you took the sutures out and why on earth did you take them out early. Theres a reason they tell you to leave them for a certain period of time.

My surgeon was Dr. Mario Almanza, he was great! Super nice, came in prior to the surgery and explained what he was going to do (English was a little rusty but understandable)

I left the stitches in the amount of time they told me to, evidently my body heals at a slower rate ...

I'm trying to establish myself with a PCP and had scheduled an appt with him today (I've only seen him once before) and they called to cancel because he's going to be out of the office so I had to reschedule with someone else :(

Youre supposed to remove your stitches? uhm hmmmm. I had my surgery the 28th and there is no way in heck I'd remove anything, but mine are the dissovling type.

You can go to the emergency room or urgent care center of any hospitol and they will see you for your infections and treat you no matter what.

A primary care doctor will as well.

No one will probably re-stitch that. It will have to heal closed naturally.

Also, dilute that peroxide by half with water; pure peroxide irritates this type of wound.
And of course a bariatric surgeon would tell you no one in the states would treat you--HE wanted your business!
I was doing too much exercise and tore my drain incision a little,  after all the others had healed,  went to my internal medicing doc who does my physicals and routine care, he had to scrub it out a little but had no problem doing it, and my insurance did pay for the care.  He re closed it with a couple of steri strips and it healed very quickly .

You need to have this looked at in case it is infected, or needs to be re-closed.

Peroxide will irritate your wounds and keep them from healing, it's used for wound debridement.. stop using it.

I have never heard of any surgeon having their patient remove sutures themselves? Unfortunately Dr. Almanza has an above normal track record of wound infections and poor healing/opening wounds (google his name and the word complication, here or on google..) PLEASE get to your PCP, or if you do not have one- an urgent care center immediately and get on antibiotics. It is patently untrue that no one will see you since you went to a MX surgeon.. however, in this case you don't need a surgeon, you just need a decent doc to get you fixed up. If the wound is open, it will likely need to remain that way until it heals from the inside out. Please don't hesitate, get to a doctor asap.
