Starting Liquid Diet Today

I am new to these boards but I thought this would be a good place for some advice.  I have started my liquid diet today in preparation for my surgery on July 11th.  This is definitely a difficult feat.  But I wanted to ask you all what sorts of things helped you get through the liquid diet pre-op.  Either liquids that you couldn't do without or things that you did to distract you from eating...

Just looking for a little help to get me through these 2 weeks!

Thanks!

I'm not far behind you. I was to start Wednesday but now not starting til Thursday due to having appointments all day on Wednesday. I got S/F pudding, yogurt, jello, carnation essentials, and 1% milk. if you would like a copy of my liquid diet I can email it to you as I did for someone else here.

I didn't have to liquid diet preop for mine but for my shakes I used Trader Joes chocolate shakes. With skim milk they provided a 40 gram protein shake with few carbs and calories. hope this helps.

To me the liquid diet was the worst part of the whole thing! I was ok on day one but by day 3 I was getting headaches and was very fatigued. I was only doing the optifast shakes at first and then I looked through my info packet and I missed the part that I could add broths and jello. I made my own chicken broth and supplemented with that. It did help so much.

It's very tough and I feel for you. But it will be over before you know it!

The best of luck to you. Hang tough!

It wasn't easy, but I tried to stay away from challenging situations where possible (wasn't always possible).  For example, I didn't go out to eat.  Restaurants are like crack for me.  It's like I'm magnetically attracted to the worst thing on the menu and I knew I wouldn't choose soup and water.  I also made sure to take extra protein powder or shakes with me almost everywhere.  That way I wouldn't be stuck somewhere (i.e. work, traffic, airport) without something to drink.  I avoided grocery shopping during this time and stocked up ahead of time.  And I tried to focus on everything else but food (really hard) such as the color of my flowers in my yard and the noises in my neighborhood.  My surgeon also scared the crap out of me by saying that if I didn't do it properly, then my liver wouldn't shrink enough and he might have trouble keeping it out of the way during surgery.  And lastly, I kept thinking "it's just 5 more days or 3 more days."  I took it one day at a time and I knew there was light at the end of the tunnel.

I made it and did well.  But I won't lie - it was hard.  Good luck!

Sugar Free Popsycles!!!!!  They really helped my need to chew.  Also, drink, drink, drink, drink - you will feel fuller.  Don't care if it's Crystal Light, 4C Totally Light, Mi0, or Powerade - the more you drink, the less you will think about eating.

Thanks everyone!  I'm halfway through the first day and it hasn't been horrible, but I know this evening when I get home will be another beast when I'm sitting bored and watching TV.  I'll make it a short night and just go to sleep :)
