How do we get our husbands on board to lose weight?
I love him and he said he would do this with me. He thinks I don't understand. Boy, do I understand!! You know what I'm talking about!! Been there done that!
He had a health scare recently with his liver. They found fat in it and that was it but it was recommended he lose weight. He has been on BP meds for over 20 years. What in the world can I do to get his head in the game? Anyone successful? He is 7 years older than me and I want him to be around for a long time!

What could anyone have done to get your head in the game at your highest weight?
People need to come to weight loss on their own terms. Otherwise, I think you can encourage any effort he puts forth and accept him as he is, which is probably what any of us would want when we're struggling with weight.

Sorry, but I have to say you made a decision at some point to do something about your own weight and life!
All you can do is set the example by eating healthy for yourself!
He will come to a decision on his own at some point like you did!!
Right now I think it is best to concentrate on your healthy plan and cook healthy for him as well.
For me, so far, my husband has been throwing together his own meals. Course he is on night shift this last few days. I always used to make a balanced meal at around 4:30 pm so he would be fed before leaving to a 12 hour and sometime 16 hour shift!
But since I had surgery the 11th, he has been putting together good choices for himself!
If you only cook healthy, he will have to buy the junk stuff on the way to work or play! We already had that going on since about mid Feb. I had a hip replaced and decided I never want to go through something like that one again!! So, started Michael Thurmond and lost about 13 lbs. in about 3 weeks. In the meantime the Dukan Diet was the rave so bought a book and started it right away. Lost 15 lbs the very first week. Then about 2 wks later, about 2 lbs. Then just inches for a few weeks. I learned about VSG on June 10th and July 11th got the surgery. My hubby says money is to make us happy in our lifetime so that's the way it went!
I am sure you should lead by example and realize you wouldn't want him monitoring every crumb you intake at this time!
Good luck to you!
Helen

As you know I havent had surgery yet, but have been on this 6 month diet, since I do the shopping at our house if I dont buy it he doesnt eat it....and I cook healthier than I ever have, the thing is he has lost about 20 more lbs than I have, that stinks, men have higher metabolism besides he works hard, and I really dont, Im so happy for him. thats about all you can do. we have been doing this for 7 months now and its easier to make better food choices for both of us. just keep up what your doing it will kick in, and dont ever forget what a struggle it was post surgery. hang in there your doing GREAT!!!

I'm Still a work in progress, I wont give up the quest to reclaim my life, I will be whole again someday!

Thanks Boomer!
He actually HAS gotten on board. I was shocked when he wanted to get on the scale Monday after I did my weigh in. He is as excited as I am on Monday mornings when I weigh in! So his weight is written in my book alongside mine now.
One problem with his eating is there are several restaurants within walking distance of his work. I can pack a nutritious lunch but if he doesn't eat I can't help it. I don't have young children in my home so we don't keep any junk around. If he wants it he has to go buy it.
This thing may work out afterall!!
