Hi there
I have multiple sclerosis, I started at 202 and I am 5'6" 37 years old. I also have two young children. I am almost 3 months out and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I have not been able to work out to get the weight off like I used to and my weight has been going up about 10 pounds each year for the past 7 plus years. If I lost 10 before I went back up 20 again and again....this surgery was such a blessing! For the first time in my life I am confident that the weight I get rid of is gone for good. I am actually starting to feel like ME again. I am 34 pounds down so far and I couldn't be happier!
Btw I paid $12,500 out of pocket for one of the best doctors that does this surgery and he was worth every penny! I traveled to get to him.
Good luck!!!

I'm 5'3.5" and started my journey at 39.6 BMI. I feel that I need the surgery to be successful, but my insurance denied. The bariatric surgery center is handling the re-do or appeal, I think.

In the past six weeks, I've starved/worked off 10+ pounds. It's not much, but it's a start. I get soo frustrated when I watch the weight transformation shows on TV because the results are so unrealistic and mostly not maintainable.

Hope all goes well with your surgery! Just remember, that it is a major surgery with risks and that it is a permanent life-change.

you have health issues that will shorten your life..and if i was blessed with two little ones i would want to be with those 2 little boys for as long as possible..so i would do it...

i would do this a thousand times over..only 3% of people who lose weight on their own keep it off, do this now and you will be off the yo yo rollercoaster and i guarantee your pre-diabetes will be a distant memory..do it now before you develop more health problems

stay strong mama!

I am 5'2 and started at 207.  I am now at 135 and feel absolutely amazing.  I would definitely do it all over again.  Because of your health issues do you think you would be able to lose the weight on your own?  I know you are scared but you honestly need to think about your boys and what type of mother you want to be for them.  Do you always want to be sitting on the sidelines?  Do you want them to be embarassed of your weight when they become teenagers?  When they want to go to theme parks, do you want to join them on the rides or sit on the sidelines? How about when they get married?  Do you want to be the overweight mother in law?  Or the beautiful mother in law.  These are all things you have to think about.  The first few weeks are the worse but after that, it really does get better.

In a heartbeat I would have surgery if I was your weight.  You will get to goal easier.
However keep in mind, its a lifestyle change.

I don't think I would do it if I was only 200 lbs.  Just my personal opinion. Losing 50lbs with diet and exercise is obtainable....losing 150lb is another story. But nobody know's u like u....good luck!

Yes!  I too was prediabetic and I also had high blood pressure.  The morning of surgery I was 194 (I'm 5'2").  It was the best thing I've ever done.  For once in my life I am not overweight!  I got to goal in 6.5 months, and am currently maintaining at 5 lbs under goal - 135.  I never would have lost this much without the sleeve.

You will have so much more energy to play with your boys!

Good luck!

In a word "yes" I would do the surgery with those stats.  You may want to check out the Lightweights forum here.  There's plenty of other people there with similar stats that have the same issues as you.

You want honest feedback? Here's mine.  When I saw the title of the message I said, out loud, "Maybe if you're 5'2" or something".  And I was close.

I think a lot of WLS patients see a "lightweight" considering surgery and feel like 70-90 pounds to lose isn't enough to justify the surgery or something.

I assume that you've scheduled this through a reputable surgeon who specializes in WLS, weighed the options, did the pre-op stuff, and are going into this with your eyes opened wide?

If that is the case you've been medically and mentally cleared by someone who is looking at more than just dollar signs and should be as good to go as the rest of us were :).
