i was wondering what all they do to you before during and after the surgery. do you have to have a catheter or an ng tube?

I am two weeks out from surgery and I did not have an NG tube, to my knowledge its not needed, but yes indeed I had a Foley Catheter and it was not removed until the morning after surgery-ugh.  So far the overnight stay in the hospital and surgery were the easiest part of all this.  The first week at home of just liquids was so hard.  But it does get a little better every day.

Every surgeon is different. Some do and some don't. To find out you'll have to contact your own surgeon.

It varies by doctor.  I had a cath, but not an NG tube.  The cath was inserted/removed while I was under anesthesia.  I have had a cath inserted/removed when awake though, it's not painful, just a little pressure.

i asked this question a few days ago and got a bunch of responses about catheters. idk what an ng tube is :/

overall it seemed that half of the people did have catheters and half didn't. everyone that did said it was put in while they were knocked out.

Don't worry about it.  The surgeon will do what he thinks is best, and it won't make any difference to you in the long-run.  Besides, catheters and ng tubes are no big deal.  They insert them while you are under anesthesia, and if by some small chance they don't remove them while you are still out, they aren't painful when they are removed.  Zip, they are out.  As I said, don't worry about it :-)

I woke up in recovery with a catheter, NG tube and a drain. I detail them in my blog. :)

Talk to your Dr. I requested no cath and didn't have one and I also didn't have a Ng tube or a drain. Cath. are not being used as much anymore they want you to get up if only to pee right away .LOL

I have no idea what  NG tube is, so probably not :).  I was told I was catheterized but it was done while I was knocked tha f out (thank god).
