just wondering if there are any Mainers out there?
Hi! I'm actually a transplanted Bostonian. I moved to the Waterville area (Oakland), with my husband, in 1990 - he's from the Sanford area. I was literally on the operating table yesterday, with the surgeon about to start the procedure, but my heart rate went into the 30's and even after they gave me 3 different meds, they couldn't get it over 50, so the surgery was cancelled. The surgeon and my pcp talked and they felt that the dosage of the beta blocker I take was too high now that I've lost almost 30 lbs. and my sleep apnea is being treated. Today that med was decreased by 2/3. I go back to both pcp and surgeon on 8/16. If all is well, the surgery will be re-scheduled, probably for sometime in September.
How are you doing, and where are you in your process?

Oh wow, im so sorry! I can imagine how frusterating that must be (to be on the surgury table and not wake up on the other side). I am not in that predicament but i am on this road for the second time. (insurance wouldnt approve the procedure off post, (hubby is in the military)) but now im getting it done on post and i just had my first appointment with the surgeon. Thus far i am looking at a surgury date in late september, so we may be going through recovery at the same time. Are you feeling better now? that your meds have been adjusted?
The funny thing is that I didn't feel any differently. They held the med through last night, so I just took it again this morning, but a much lower dosage. The surgeon had suggested I have a stress test, but left it up the pcp. I saw the FNP yesterday and she said I'm not experiencing increased chest pain and/or shortness of breath, and my heart sounds strong, so she didn't think I need that test. However, when I got home from work today, there was a message that she talked to my pcp who thinks I should have a stress test before surgery, Oh well, better safe than sorry!
Good luck with getting your procedure done. We may very well end up as surgery buddies! :) Take care.
Mary
