how can i make this work?
Okay,...I need some help! I have done some soul searching over the past year and I have 100% decided I want the sleeve...problem is my insurance does not cover it at all and will not any time soon. I have nobody to help me....I have about a quarter of the total amount to put as a down payment, but nobody will help me because I have bad credit. I have had someone try to cosign for me but they were denied as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can do this?? Please help!!!!!
First, I am so sorry that your insurance won't cover the sleeve. That being said, will they cover any WLS surgery? If so, you may want to reconsider your choice. Self pay is a major investment, and if you have insurance coverage, I'd suggest that you use it to the maximum advantage you can. I chose VSG and would do it again in a heartbeat, but there are other effective surgical treatments for obesity.
That said, before I changed my choice, I would exhaust my appeals for VSG. If it covers any WLS, you might be able to get the VSG covered if you wear them down with the appeal process. Another option would be to consider a job change. If you have that option, finding an employer whose insurance will cover this surgery would save you enough money to allow you to accept a lesser income and still come out ahead.
If you have to go self pay, Mexico seems to be the best option there, and there are some well known and respected surgeons there. I wish you all the best. We are definitely worth the investment in our own health and happiness.
Good luck in your efforts!

thanks alot for the responses...whats funny is my insurance already approved me last year for the gastric bypass and I did eveyrthing with the 6 mo diet plan, nutrituinist, psych...etc...i was down to scheduling the EGD and I changed my mind...that was a year ago. I have a couple people in my family who are close to me who have the sleeve and they can eat whatever they want and have never had an issue and it seemed to me that there were a few more issues with the bypass...bumy iunsurance does cover the bypass...I have thought about resorting back to that because it is covered.
