Not sure I can do this...
I'm on day 2 of my 20 day pre-op liquid diet. I'm not sure I can do it for this long. I have zero self-control. I even cheated a little yesterday. I can't even go 2 days! I feel like such a loser.
I feel like crying and screaming and cancelling the whole darn thing.
How do you get through it?
Sorry for the whining. I needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

I don't think I could have done it either. However, my Dr. didn't require it. I was to hold to 1,000 calories a day, little or no carbs, one or two shakes a day and 8 glasses of water. Don't cancel your surgery. No, it won't be easy no matter how you do it but it will be worth it. The first week of clear liquids was a bear for me as well. But Unjury Chicken soup got me through that. I got very sick andtired of sweet things. I used baked custard from the start as well. I made my custard with splenda. Good luck!
I am sure I couldn't have done it either, before surgery, but after VSG, it's easy to do as you don't really want anything much. I did not have to do the liquids preop. I just did a low carb diet and lost 7 lb preop. My doctor only required liquids for the 24 hrs just prior to surgery day. Then nothing after midnight.
Don't cancel your surgery, whatever you do. Just keep getting back on the horse as soon as you fall off.
Keep on tryin, and you'll find that it was totally worth it all.

Hang in there. I just completed my second week of pre-op diet. My doctor wanted me to do shakes for breakfast and lunch and then a lean protein with green leafy vegetable for dinner with no snacks. I knew myself enough to know that I would fail if I went straight to the strick plan so the first week I did 2 hard boiled eggs and a protein bar for breakfast, a banana for a snack, protein shake for lunch, apple for snack and then the requested dinner. I lost a pound a day doing that. This week I was able to easily transfer to the diet my doctor requested. Good luck.
Don't give up. You can do it. Don't cancel and don't beat yourself up for cheating a little. Most of us are fighting carb, fat and sugar addictions too. It's worth the fight.
I'm on Day 5 and feeling great. Day 3 for me, was the worst with the detox headache but remember why you are doing this. Remember the life you want to have after surgery. Visualize the end result of this.
At one point on day 3 I was sobbing, begging my husband to come and pick me up from work. I had a migraine that worsened when I moved my head left or right. He talked me down from my "F-it I give up!" attitude and I decided to pound a protein shake followed PowerAde Zero and topped it off with a full glass of water. Within about 10 minutes, I started feeling better. You just have to keep your protein and fluid intake up and you'll be okay.

You can do it and don't beat yourself up about cheating - I did the first and third day but got back on the wagon so to speak. I thought it got a little better after the 3rd day so hang in there. Sugarfree popsicles and sugar free jello if you can have them... Good luck and just keep going and you will make it. Try to stay busy too it helps. Good luck to you.
I sooo feel your pain. I am finally sleeved now, but I had a 10 day liquid diet before surgery and I just thought I was going to DIE! The first 3 days I was angry, depressed, sad, furious, etc...I was ready to throw up my hands and call the whole thing quits. I knew I really couldn't do that though, I had put so much effort into the WLS process including 1.5 years of going to classes, testing, weigh-in's, dr.'s visits, sleep studies...etc. Plus I knew there would be very little hope of me ever EVER getting and keeping the weight off. I buckled down and pushed through and by the 4th day it got better, much better. It's those damn first few days of carb de-toxing that is just so damn awful! Did I cheat? Yeah, a little....but I cheated with lean protein, so if you're gonna do it.... do it wisely. I was suppose to have 3 or 4 shakes per day plus 1 cup greens for dinner. I did have my shakes and would have fresh spinach salad with fat free vingarette for dinner, but cheated by adding a couple grilled chickn tenders or salmon on top. I still lost about a 1lb per day and that really was the ultimate goal anyway so it got the job done. Here I am now 2 weeks post op and SOOOOO glad I didn't give up. You can do it!!
