I did on the very first day and on the 3rd day - I had a 5 day pre-op.  but I did end up losing 10 lbs in the end.  I wouldn't have eaten on the last day because I was suppose to fast for 12 hrs before surgery no water or anything.  That day I definitely didn't cheat

I don't advise cheating but I fought it as long as I could.and when I cheated I didn't eat a full meal I had something very small.  Like I had a small slice of homemade pizza on the first day for example.  No pop or sweets.  I have had no complications before or after.

Ok, this sounds bad, but I did it when I got really desperate during my no-carb preop diet. I'd take a bite of a cookie, chew it up really well, then spit it out. Just so I got the taste and the feel. If you don't have the self-control to spit it out, don't try it. Also it's eating disordered behavior so it's NOT a good habit to be in. But if it's between that and cheating, well, you pick the lesser of the evils. Have you also tried chewing that dessert-flavored gum? They have a really tastey mint chocolate gum out now that I swear tastes like girl scout thin mints.

I wasn't on a pre-op diet but my surgeon did ask I try to lose 10-20lbs before surgery. I had almost 2 months to do it though. I did cheat many times and sometimes with really bad stuff. The funny thing is.....the food I had when I cheated NEVER tasted as good as I had hoped. Then I would gain a lb or 2 that I would have to spend all week losing again. I wish I could say have self control but I wanna say.....get the lst yummy meal in girl cuz after surgery it's all protein and no food for awhile. The good news is after surgery you won't care cause your not hungry.
P.s. I am 1 month out and so far no complications =) Good luck!

Just wanted to jump on what someone else said about the idea of the food being better than the reality. I just finished a book that explained two studies about obese people vs thin people. Obese people think sweet/fatty foods are going to be more delicious/wonderful, etc than thin people. And another showed that in reality we actually get LESS enjoyment than thin people. Probably why we feel the nees to eat so much of it. If you need something to keep your mind off the food, I'd recommend the book The Compass of Pleasure. I think it helps to try to look at it intellectually rather than emotionally.

I only had to do one week, but I did not cheat. Its def hard, but worth it to stick to your plan.

As you know, my surgery is this tues. Ive been on this liquid preop diet for 13 days now, and I can honestly say I have not cheated. Then again, for some reason Im just not having that hard of a time with the whole thing. I think its because Im just so determined to have this surgery, I dont want to take a chance on anything! lol Its not too much longer!! Good luck:)
