Worried
Tomorrow marks me being a week since I had my surgery and had some concerns. I think that I am overall doing well but I have been having a real hard time to getting the protein shakes in. I know that I am supposed to be drinking them about 3-4 times a day along with my clear liquids. How can I say this... hmmmm not that I forgetting to make the shakes but its like I am not really hungry and when I do get hungry I eat some yogurt or a popsicle. I have tried the strained soup and I did not like that too much. I have tried putting a few banannas in my shake to enhance the taste but its almost as if I do not want to drink them. I have been on this meat kick for about a few days now but I distract myself and keep it moving. My mother was telling me that it is important to get the shakes in because something about since I will be losing weight sort of quickly since I am not eating I will be losing muscle and that is what might hurt me in the long run it will look like I lost the weight too fast! I would rather eat the protein then drink the shakes I know I cannot do that at this moment but I am starting to get a little discouraged.

Sweety, you are starting off to a bad start. You are supposed to be on clear liquids and protein, not banana shakes. You need the protien in order to heal from such a major surgery. Also, the high protein will help you reset your metabolism so that you can eventually go into ketosis and burn fat while you are resetting your entire metabolism. Then you will begin the process to lose weight the right way. If you do not follow instructions you are going to be in a lot of trouble on the long run. Please follow the instructions that were given to you when you were discharged from the hospital. No one should be giving you instructions with the exception of your nutritionist or your doctor. I am sure my suggestions are similar to what has already been discussed with you. If you decide to eat protein at this stage you can die. Your stomach is still swollen inside and its trying to heal, the protein will help you heal faster (the protein shake), not KFC lol.... Good luck in your new life.

If you are on clear liquids, then the banana is not a clear liquid and should be avoided. If you are on full liquids, it is still questionable because it has so much sugar.
You can add other things to enhance the flavor of shakes: unsweetened cocoa powder, splenda or stevia, extracts such as peppermint (just a drop or two), spices such as cinnamon, or try mixing them with milk.
At one week out, I was more concerned with fluids than anything to avoid dehydration. Good luck!

Be careful with the banana slices, you are still healing. I think you mentioned you were only one week post of right? Then you should be on the clear liquids and protein shakes alone. Try putting some ice in the blender when you are doing your shake or just freeze it and eat it like ice cream. Sorry for the misunderstanding:)

I like Torani sugar-free syrups from the grocery store. They come in an assortment of flavors to add to your protein shakes. The bananas your eating are all carbs and will prohibit you from going into ketosis. I don't like the protein shakes either....I am soooo tired of them, but it's what we signed up for so I just drink them to get them down. Good luck!
Gia - you are doing ok - main thing in the first week is to make sure that you get your 48 - 64 oz of clear liquids. If you can get in some shake -awesome. In the beginning I didn't feel much like eating either and my tastes were (and still are) way off - I just couldn't stomach the shakes. Got a filet mignon on the brain, and was so happy after the month so that I could have it! It went down beautifully!
FYI - our surgeon allows full liquids as soon as you go home - so some bananas (a little) in the shake are approved on our diet! SF syrup is also good. If you really cant stomach it, try greek yogurt - you get more protein that way!
