I was on semi liquid  for 7 days, then full liquid 3 days before surgery. It makes a difference in recovery too...you'll be use to liquids already. It can't hurt if you decide to add a few days to your preop diet.  On the other hand, you'll also be able to enjoy last minute foods that you won't be able to enjoy for several months afterwards either.

I saw do a 3 day liquid diet.  It makes your liver less slippery and your surgeon will notice that you are compliant to his instructions.

In my surgeons clinic it depends on your BMI how long you go on the full liquid to clear liquid diet.

FYI: What I just personally learned is that the LESS crap in your system the better. The diet is considered a bowel prep AND to shrink the liver. But your bowels are "put to sleep" too when under anesthesia, so take awhile to begin to work again properly.

Good luck.. cannot wait to welcome you to losers bench!!

i've been on my liquid diet since the 6th. and my surgery is on the 19th. but some people dont have to have a liquid diet at all. so i guess it just depends on your surgeon.

 Hi,

i started my liqued diet to day and my surgery will be on August 30. Me was told one week is definetly necessary, but I want to do 2 weeks, cause surgery will be easier and even recovery.
So tell me how you fell. My first day was easy to do. But I did it already before, so I know what I m fighting with, lol.

I have been on liquids for 2 weeks now. My surgery is tomorrow. I was just telling someone yesterday, that Im so glad my surgeon required it, because I think its going to prepare me so much. I couldnt imagine just suddenly not being able to eat, with NO preparation. Best of luck to you!!

My BMI is 39 and that didn't matter, they make everyone do a 2 week liquid (this includes fat free plain yogurt etc) then the day before surgery clear liquids.  Hope this helps!  I am 14 days away from starting and eating everything I love currently, it is like I am saying good bye to food.
