i threw up for first time since surgery
i never want to eat tuna again! i was fine at lunch with the tuna but dinner didn't sit so well and i threw all the dinner tuna up....it feels yucky
this is so much harder than i thought...the recovery is so slow...i know it gets better because i see so many of you happy...
any tricks to transitioning to mushies?
Throwing up - it really is yucky and it can seem scary being so close to surgery date!
I didn't have tuna right away, something just told me that it might be too heavy for me. My only recommendation would be to go really, really slowly. I started w/ really soft food such as scrambled eggs (which some people have a problem with), ricotta cheese, and cottage cheese. I knew I wasn't getting in enough protein so as much as a hated it, I kept up with the protein shakes to make sure I was getting my daily limits in. I felt this was key for my energy level and health (but if I had to drink a protein shake now, I'd rather starve).
For now, just go very, very slowly when you eat. Like ridiculously slow...Take a bite, put your fork down, and wait a few mins before taking another bite. It will absolutely get much better, but it will take you a little time to figure out what works for you, and what doesn't. Mushies can be a tricky stage because it seems like you can eat more, but you probably can't. When I first started, I could only tolerate about 2 tablespoons of scrambled egg. I eat a whole egg now (9 mths out).
Your belly is still swollen...be patient, you will get there. The beginning of this truly is the hardest part, by far. I remember being frustrated and feeling like all I was doing was focusing on food and what I could/couldn't eat. However, with 23 lbs left to go, I can tell you that without hesitation, I would do every bit of this over and over again to feel the way I do now.
Good luck! Be kind to yourself!!!
