Anemia
Its actually pretty common, especially the further out folks get.
Sometimes its a B12 issue, sometimes we arent supplementing with iron, sometimes we are supplementing with iron that isnt well absorbed, sometimes its because we are taking iron with/near calcium, dairy, whole grains, nuts, eggs and those things all inhibit good absorption.
As a general rule, its just a really good idea to get copies of our labs and chart our trends. A lot of folks will just hear their doc say "its fine" and let that be that, instead of actually getting their grubby (or not grubby!) hands on their labs and track the labs themselves.
Some docs tend to not look at our years past labs, and only look twice at things that the lab values say are low or high, but dont see our trends.
This is an EXCELLENT resource for tracking labs, knowing why we ought to have what labs, and what else we should know in conjunction with them. This is good for EVERYONE, even folks who see their bariatric surgeons and have them draw their labs (not just for self pays).

For me, I have had to go to a different doctor after I realized (by getting my labs and tracking myself) that while I liked my doctor well enough, they just really werent taking the time to look at my stuff, if there wasnt a red flag need to. So many deficiencies we could have avoided, if we had been looking for trends.
Sorry for your anemic woes, friend!

I had my VSG in Oct 2007 and recently was diagnosed with serious iron deficiency. I am on supplements, but have to have an IV transfusion in the next few months.
I eat lots of protein, including red meat, so they aren't sure why I've developed anaemia. I am having an endoscopy and colonoscopy to check I am not bleeding internally from polyps or ulcers.
You have my sympathy!! Being so fatigued and lethargic is no picnic.
Hugs, Lil xx

Hi Ladies!
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you about this anemia deal...so sorry to hear you've had issues also. I've seen a few doctors and had several tests...still more to come. The doctor today said she didn't feel like this is from my diet. Also didn't feel like it was because of heavy periods...they're checking my heart (have no idea why that would have anything to do with anything) I'm very glad they are checking EVERYTHING! I'm on iron now but it could take a long time to feel better.
Hope your health is good and you're loving your new healthy bodies! :)
Thanks so much and when and if I get more onfo I'll post...
