2weeks out and rude Dr assistant
First, no one has the right to treat anyone in such a manner. Second, the assistant is in the service industry, whether she wears scrubs or not. If she is not providing good service to the patients, she is not doing her job. Third, if it continues to be an issue (or even now), I would call up the office and tell them that you WILL have a consultation with the doctor. If they don't make that happen, you can take steps with your state medical board. Finally, always remember that you have to be your own advocate--no one else is going to do it for you. You need to let her know that she does not have permission to yell at you--ever! I had a crazy orthopedic surgeon when I was 19 *****moved a bone tumor, but also was a misogynist. I had to tell my dad about any complications because he only listened to men, not to me, his patient. He even screamed at me when I had an allergic reaction to the cast wrap. I probably should thank him now. Because of him, I have learned that medical professionals are not gods, just humans, and sometimes they are not the nicest people. You have to stick up for yourself!
Honestly, I just wouldn't accept that from anyone, ever. I'd demand to see the doctor in person, immediately. 30-40 pounds in the first two weeks is ridiculous, as are diet pills in your cir****tance. Is she a nurse? Is she licensed to give you medication advice?
Really, truly, I would very calmly, with great self assurance raise holy hell.

I just looked him up. Did you see him at his private practice office, or as part of Tulane? If you've interacted with him as part of a larger system, like Tulane, you have avenues to make a complaint if he won't see you and won't address the negligent medical advice his staff is giving you (and it sounds like others as well?).
Here's an email for him, I'd email him directly.

If you want to write an email and post it here for feedback, I'm sure lots of us would be happy to provide feedback before you send it.

Document what happened with that ***** and make sure you CC it to her HR, the surgeon, the receptionist etc.....
SCREW her and get back in her face next time! That's bull**** NOBODY loses at the same rate and she absolutely owes you an apology at the very least.
AND remind her that it's absolutely NOT okay to treat patients like that (or anybody else as far as that goes) and that it's also NOT okay to belittle you or compare you to anyone else. EVER. PERIOD.
You didn't say WHAT you were eating, so I hope that at the soft stage you are doing eggs, cheese, refried beans, Greek yogurt etc so that you ARE able to get in your protein. But honestly the biggest issue at this point out is water and protein. Just because it's soft, don't get swayed into eating mashed potatoes or pasta, or any other sliders. Just say no!
Great that you've had no pain and no other issues. Soft food is not going to cause you to leak. Common sense tells you that if water doesn't leak, soft foods aren't going to. YOU CAN however, stuff yourself to bursting and that's what you don't want to do. Don't stress your staples or your tummy at all. Know when to put the fork down.
Still, I'd want to slap that ***** ;-)

Sooo glad to to see someone else on her that had Dr. Bellows as their surgeon. I'm so sorry that nutcase gave you such a hard time, just as she is currently doing with me, but I keep losing on her "sorry behind" so she don't come back with her favorite line "if you don't lose the weight, then he will cancel the surgery" I hate that office!!!! I can't wait until my surgery is over, so I won't have to deal with her anymore!!!! I do have a couple of questions though if you don't mind answering them for me. I am on my 2 week liquid protein replacement meals. What I have been doing is a large Gladiator from smoothie king for mornings and afternoons and then I would have crawfish in the evening and then for a before I go to bed snack, a sugar free ice bomb from blue bell. Can I do this, or what did you do? Could you give me any suggestions before I go to surgery on next wed 04042012? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I had my surgery on 3/21/12 by Dr. Bellows at Tulane downtown, and I havent had any problems with Vanessa or anyone else at the office.
However I don't understand a 2 week liquid diet. I was given a 3 week liquid diet. Protein powder shakes like gladiator are great but remember no fruit can be added to them. lots of s/f jello and s/f pudding. Walmart has some excellent s/f popsicles. Rememeber count the carbs. As far as crawfish???? They aren't part of the diet. It has to be liquids. If he opens you and sees food in your bowel he will close you right back up. I know you will have to drink the colyte day before surgery, but that doesn.t gauranty a completly empty bowel epecially if your putting in solids.

Thanks for chiming in. Yes. On my sugery itinary with my date, I was instructed to start my liquid protien diet on 03/18/2012. Well I didn't know I couldn't have fruit in the gladiators. It typically comes with 2 fruits so Ive been doing the bananas. The reason why I did crawfish is because I thought this would be good source of protien with having to starve myself. I guess I was incorrect on that. Now I do have bluebell sugarfree icepops Ive been eating. No carbs, no sugar, no nothing. You think I'll be ok with that? I see I will have to start this thing from scratch come tomorrow. Do you have any other suggestions?
