A different way to get your protein in! (X-post kinda)

Looks like it's protein Friday!!

Protein intake has always been a knock down drag out battle for me. Believe me I try and be a good girl and get that protein shake in in the am. After drinking a shake, I am miserable!! I get sweaty...hot flashy...nauseous, and weak feeling. I don't know why this happens...someone said something about having a glycemic reaction, and if anyone has a techinical explanation, please let me know.

Anyway, it finally occurred to me to try breaking it into smaller servings.
I now drink 8 ounces of Fat Free Lactaid milk (I'm extremely lactose intolerent) and I use a 1/2 scoop of protein in it. This is working fabulous for me and I'm drinking these 3 times a day. With
8 gm's of protein in the milk and 10 gm's in the Unjury, I'm getting 54 gm's of protein beyound what I'm eating. I can tolerate this and it doesn't give me the side effects a whole scoop does.

I wanted to post this since so many people struggle with protein intake...and I hope it helps for you!!

that's a GREAT idea.  I get obsessed with using an entire scoop.  It makes sense to use half.

Thanks

You could very well be getting way too much sugar in your protein drink. A lot of protein powders have added sugar for flavor, and milk itself has sugars in it. So if you're doing a whole scoop of powder plus all that milk, you're dumping a fairly concentrated amount of sugar into your system at once. My symptoms of sugar overload are sweating, nausea, and diarrhea. It's liquid too so it goes right through your stomach into your intestines, where the concentration of electrolytes (sugars) attracts water, which rushes in and causes all of those unpleasant symptoms.

I ended up switching to an unsweetened protein powder. I add half a banana to it in the blender if I want a little sweetness, and I make it with half milk half water. But breaking it up into smaller portions throughout the day is also a perfect solution.

I find it hard too, if I don't get in the protein shake first thing in the morning.   I've been using EA protein and have really liked it, I add it to lactaid milk along with a banana each morning.   But yesterday I decided to have cereal (Kashi) and milk first thing, and then I had decaf coffee.   I bought some Unjury unflavored protein so I thought I could put it in my coffee. (hadn't used the Unjury before)  It tasted fine, but for the rest of the day I felt nauseous and just felt lousy the rest of the day.   I attribute it to the new protein powder.   Have you ever thought of switching protein powders and see if that's the reason for those symptoms?   I don't know why it would be the protein powder, but I'm thinking that was the cause.  That's a great idea about splitting up the protein into smaller servings.

Your post may help many others....

I love lactaid milk.  My son decided he is lactose intolerent.  He wasnt diagnosed
but felt gasy and bloated with regular milk.  since lactain he doesnt have this problem.
I drink the milk too and really enjoy it.
