A Brighter Day (Complications)

 Hi Everyone,

I posted yesterday about my chronic vomiting and inability to keep any fluids down.  I'm 4 days post-op.  Well I took two trips into the ER yesterday.  One for the vomiting and then again last night for urinating blood.  Did anyone ever experience that?  They don't really have an explanation for it and sent me home with no action plan.

But.....all that aside....I've finally stopped vomiting!  (It's the little things in life....) and can keep my fluids down which makes me feel loads better.

I kinda feel like I'm on a hesitant first date with my sleeve.  Still getting to know each other.  Not wanting to offend.  Testing the waters with.......water.

As to urinating blood...are/were you on blood thinners? Same thing happened to me after knee surgery and they attributed it to the blood thinnners???

I am on blood thinners.  Daily injections of 40 mg of Lovonox.  They also gave me dissolvable Zofran for the nausea/vomiting.  Today I haven't thrown up once.

How do you get on all those fluids though?  64 ozs a day seems impossible.  I'm already sipping constantly.

I too had complications after surgery. I developed several blood clots in my legs and my lung. I was on Lovenox for 6 days and Coumadin (Warfarin) since last Saturday. I too was urinating blood. As soon as I realized it was my urine and not my period, I got very nervous. As soon as I voiced my concern, 12 hours later it stopped. I wish everything worked that easily. My family dr is monitoring my Coumadin levels and he changed some things around. I see him on Tuesday. It is so scary.

Most people have trouble getting in all their fluids initially.  Just do the best you can to prevent dehydration.  It took me almost a month to get my daily fluids in.  Hang in there and I'm so glad that your vomiting stopped finally.  Hope you continue to improve.

Hang in there, trust me it does get easier!!, I had my surgery the 22nd of Aug, and most days I can now get my fluids and proteins in but my sleeve is fickle and sometimes it wont let me put in as much as I did the day before, Oh well you learn to roll with it. Im not sure if I knew just how small those sips had to be in the beginning, but you learn there is a balance you'll find it....hugs. hope your complications clear soon.

I'm Still a work in progress, I wont give up the quest to reclaim my life, I will be whole again someday!
