re:Being Nice To The Newbies
I completely understand. This board is really pretty nice compared to a lot of public forums. I have learned so much from you guys. This is my only shot at surgery and I don't want to screw it up.
Also, my best thinking got me morbidly obese, and to the point of chosing surgery. Thank goodness I'm learning how to make this work.
I was late to the original topic, but part of my response was this: I think that if you post that you want a response, then be a grown up and filter what you get. You put it out there. If the asker has freedom to speak, so does the responder.
Proper etiquette would help. l have seen the same question posted on the same page 3-4 times. That 's a sign that someone is willing to get responses but not willing to read responses to others - attention seaker?, short on time?- anything is possible. And I checked the times to see if they could have been typing at the same time- no. This happens alot. I search alot because I find it quicker to read previous responses to a question than to wait for new responses. Also, people often post extreme 'supposedly' dire situations without giving all of the necessary info. They are looking for reaction and/or validation- not advice. That is a true vent. I don't respond to that. People sometimes just want to get things off their chest.
And while I'm at it: to respond to an excited "look at what I accomplished" post by whining about yourself and being depressing is just plain rude, but happens too. I skip those.
This is one of the nicest forums I have ever seen, which is why it is the only one I participate in. However, I do take a few days off or spend a few days only looking for NSVs or weight loss updates. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
The vets have helped me so far. It is appreciated.
