I only got a doctors note for two weeks off. I'm a nurse and I do a LOT of lifting, but they said I should be fine by that point. Okay then...I guess I will be heading back to work beginning of Oct. Since I am part time PRN, I did tell my boss it might be best to only schedule me ONE day that first week just to make sure.

Seems a little soon to me after major surgery, but doctor knows best...right? :/

I will be going back to my flu clinic job after a week or so, because that job requires a lot less lifting, but I was expecting more time off my primary job.

I've heard pretty standard post-op instructions to not lift anything over 10 pounds for 6 weeks.  By lifting at work, I'm assuming you're talking about lifting patients.  I don't think that's okay.  How experienced is your surgeon?

he has been doing the sleeve for as long as its been done...he has done over 300....

Yes, I mean lifting patients. I do peds but we have several "kids" over 100lbs that we have to lift from chairs to changing tables and back. I always do this with help of someone, but I will be making my coworkers do the heavier end and I will be doing feet for a few weeks, for sure.

Best of luck to you. I went back to my desk job after a week and I was totally fine, but obviously that doesn't require any physical activity. Maybe if you impress upon your coworkers how you can't do much lifting, they can help pick up your slack for a week or two? I think you'll be okay after three weeks.

Just really try to get in as much protein in as possible once you go back to work -- it really does make a difference and you'll notice you're fatigued at the end of the day if you don't. I had been feeling super tired after sitting in front of a computer all day until my doctor was like "hey dummy, eat more protein" and it made all the difference.

If you can, maybe set your cell phone alarm for every few hours to remind you to eat -- a greek yogurt or a string cheese or cottage cheese (if you can tolerate cc, I couldn't that early) or a protein drink. Because otherwise you might forget!

My doc told me 2 to 3 weeks top. I am in retail and sometimes receiving the truck can be very heavy. I am very concerned about this. He told me that the incisions were not going to be bad. I'm not worried about the incisions, I am worried about the staples in my stomach. I will be talking with my doc again about this. Good Luck to you

I'm also a nurse and you will be tired when you first go back so maybe the one day idea is a good one.  If you sched ule for the end of the week it gives you almost 3 weeks off.   I'd bring a bag full of protein rich snacks for a quick bite if you find it hard to take a full break.  How long is your lifting resriction?  Mine was 4 weeks.  Maybe the surgeon can put a lifting restriction on your release to return to work form.  Good luck
