Low Vitamin D?
More sun! The skin cancer scare of a few years ago along with evolving American dietary standards (soda for breakfast for kids instead of milk, etc.) has fueled a general decline in vit D consumption. 10-15 minutes a day exposure is generally considered to be adequate and presents little cancer risk in all but the most sensitive. That would be a help.
I wouldn't be hitting the 50k IU D tablets without running it by your physician first. Depending upon the level of deficiency, my doc will hit his DS patients with 50k daily at first, then tapering off as the levels stabilize (but then the DSers malabsorb D, so they need the bigger hammer.) My wife, 6+ years out on a DS is taking one a month these days. Since we don't malabsorb D, but just don't eat as much, particularly dairy in most of us, the normal supplements in the 1000-5000 IU range should be sufficient to bring you back in line.
I supplement with 1000 a day plus what's in the calcium supplements and what dairy and other foods that I consume, and what casual sun exposure that I get (I am not a sun worshiper, but I don't shy away from it, either.) I will bump up the supplements as labs indicate (just visited the vampire this morning.)

When there do a search on Vit D3.
Vit D3 positively effects our immune system.
You will have less colds and flu if you take Vit D3
Its good to get outside in the sun with NO sunscreen on at least 15 - 20
minutes daily.
My spring pre-op blood work showed I was deficient in Vit D but last AUGUST I wasn't
because I'm a gardener and get out in the sun alot during the summer.
Its not unusual for people who live in northern states to have this problem
because of the winters and cloudy days.
