Post 3 year lab issues

My lab work for my three year check up came back today. I had been supplementing with tender iron for two years now.. Ferritin had been low two years ago, got it to an all time high of 15 last year, and now back down to 6... Numbers are as such:

WBC: 3.7
RBC: 3.44
HGB: 28
MCH: 26
MCHC: 32
Ferritin: 6

My b-12 is 1078 down from 3100 (I had been over supplementing). My other numbers are normal and steady from last year..

Not sure what other supplementation I should be doing..

Feel like I have been hit by a truck lately, and my insurance (tricare prime at an mtf) apparently won't cover infusions- at least my PCP won't refer me.. He thinks it's low, but not soo bad.

Advice? Please..

Proferrin baby.  Its heme iron, we absorb it better AND it does not have all the "do not take with/near" caveats that elemental iron has.

vitalady sells it or you can get it from colorado biolabs, their shipping is built into the cost of the bottle, so its 54 bucks for a 3 months supply, whi*****ludes shipping.  Not "cheap" but if the there is not working or if you end up not taking it regularly/do not absorb it when you do because of all the "do not take with" caveats, then with the other, cheap means **** if you are not taking it/absorbing it.

My ferritin was 5 at a year out, I took something else for a year, brought me up to 10 (whup) but raised my H&H outta the ballpark, so I broke down after telling mikey about Proferrin and then seeing that it did not have all the caveats of regular iron.

Have not had my labs drawn yet, but a lot of folks have really good results with it.  The lightweight board is a good place to ask about proferrin too.

Gotta go flop the girls up and down hills before we get rain, (yaay!) but I wanted to shout out about the proferrin.

It was an OTC I got from vitamin shoppe, Hemaplex it was. And my hemoglobin was still within normal limits but my hematocrit was up to 46.6 with high normal being 45.

Thanks Brandi! I will have to check into that... If my dr yet again refuses to see the problem..

Yea, I am so thankful now to have a PCP that I take my tracking of labs in so she can see how I am trending when we compare, and she is *thankful* to me and glad and gracious, especially when I bring my 2 things of foil to cover the A and the B1 and B6 vials.

hey Fawn, no advice here.. but this is something I am concerned with myself.. Just had one set of regular labs pulled through my doc, and things appear ok. I need to order and get blood drawn for a full iron panel with ferritin.. to check all the levels..

Between the time you started taking Tender Iron, and got to 15 ferritin then to a low of 6, did you change the dose or anything?

Could the plastics recently have caused a drop in iron stores?

Surgery was the only change.. I know for a teeny bit after the last time I dealt with this I was taking 2 tender irons a day- my dr yelled at me and said no-go on that. I think even the 15 was too low, as my symptoms have never really improved much.. I am back to giving up all my tea (tannins) and caffeine though..
